NetherRealm Studios is set to expand the Mortal Kombat 1 universe with the upcoming Khaos Reigns expansion, featuring a reimagined Sektor as one of six new playable characters.

The expansion, slated for release on the 24th of September 2024, promises to bring fresh content to the fighting game that has already sold over four million copies worldwide.
Sektor’s Gameplay and Fatalities
A recently released gameplay trailer spotlights Sektor, offering players a glimpse of her advanced weaponry and unique fighting style.
Sektor’s arsenal includes a flamethrower, missile strikes, and rocket thrusters that enhance her movement and provide hovering capabilities.
The trailer also teases her Animality finishing move, which transforms her into a rampaging rhinoceros.
Perhaps the most striking feature is Sektor’s new Fatality, which draws comparisons to Marvel’s Iron Man. The finishing move sees Sektor dragging her opponent into orbit before plummeting back to Earth, with the unfortunate victim burning up upon re-entry. This sci-fi-inspired Fatality showcases NetherRealm’s continued commitment to over-the-top, cinematic finishers.
The Khaos Reigns expansion introduces a reimagined backstory for Sektor.
In Fire God Liu Kang’s New Era, she is portrayed as the daughter of the Lin Kuei’s master armourer and a leading warrior. Her unique blend of weaponry knowledge and martial prowess caught Sub-Zero’s attention, leading to her appointment as his most trusted lieutenant.
NetherRealm have more than made up for the discontinuation of the fan favourite Krypt Mode that was introduced in MK: Deadly Alliance and had players use Koins to unlock content. The introduction of so many fatalities, animalities and even the return of quitalities has made fans forget about it’s vaulting.
New Characters, Animalities & Pre-Order Skins
The expansion promises to explore Sektor’s role in forcing the Lin Kuei to evolve, with dire consequences for those who resist change.
Alongside Sektor, the Khaos Reigns expansion will introduce Cyrax, Noob Saibot, and guest fighters Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian as part of Kombat Pack 2. The big twist in this instalment is that both Cyrax and Sektor are being redesigned as female characters. The expansion also includes new Story mode chapters, further developing the game’s narrative.
As a bonus for all MK1 owners, a free content update will bring Animalities to the beat em up, coinciding with the Khaos Reigns release. This classic finishing move, allowing characters to transform into animals, adds another layer of brutal spectacle to the game.
Pre-orders for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns will receive four new character skins, including Wedding Scorpion, Empress Mileena, and classic Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 versions of Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot.
The highly anticipated expansion is set to release digitally across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.
