NetherRealm Studios has released a new Sektor gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, showcasing the returning Lin Kuei warrior’s advanced combat armour, devastating Fatality and rhinoceros Animality.
The footage, released on 4 September 2024, reveals Sektor’s fighting abilities ahead of the Khaos Reigns expansion launching on 24 September, alongside Cyrax and Noob Saibot.
Unlike her fully cybernetic counterpart from earlier Mortal Kombat games, Sektor remains human in Liu Kang’s New Era, using a technologically advanced suit to enhance her strength, movement and attacks.
Her fighting style combines familiar Lin Kuei weaponry with new mobility options. The trailer demonstrates flamethrowers, missile strikes and rocket thrusters, allowing Sektor to hover above opponents and launch attacks from the air.
Her missiles provide ranged offensive options, while the flamethrower delivers powerful close-range attacks. The suit’s thrusters also allow her to reposition during combat and extend aerial combinations.
What interests me most is how NetherRealm has retained Sektor’s recognisable weapons while giving them a new purpose. The rocket thrusters aren’t simply a visual addition to her armour; they also influence how she moves and attacks.
The most spectacular moment comes during her Fatality, which sees Sektor grab an opponent and propel them into the upper atmosphere.
As they reach extreme altitude, the victim begins to freeze before Sektor sends them plummeting back towards Earth. Their descent ends in a fiery impact, with the re-entry completing the brutal finishing sequence.
The attack has a distinctly superhero-inspired presentation, particularly with the armoured flight and in-helmet visual effects, but its ending is unmistakably Mortal Kombat.
Sektor’s Animality takes a very different approach, transforming her into a massive rhinoceros that charges into the defeated opponent and impales them.

The return of Animalities was confirmed during the original Khaos Reigns announcement. Every playable Fighter will receive an animal transformation when the feature launches as a free update on 24 September, with no expansion purchase required.
Beyond her fighting abilities, the trailer offers another glimpse into Sektor’s revised backstory.
Her father served as the Lin Kuei’s master armourer, while her mother was a leading warrior. Growing up within the clan, Sektor developed both the technical knowledge and martial arts skills that eventually caught Sub-Zero’s attention.
She now serves as his trusted lieutenant, supporting his vision of a stronger Lin Kuei that refuses to be constrained by Liu Kang’s authority.
That loyalty puts her in a complicated position alongside Cyrax, whose gameplay trailer previously revealed a more independent attitude towards the clan’s leadership.
Sektor, Cyrax and Noob Saibot will be available when Khaos Reigns launches on 24 September 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
The expansion also includes new story chapters centred on Titan Havik, with Ghostface, the T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian joining the playable roster at later dates.
With her advanced armour, aerial mobility and striking finishing moves, Sektor brings a different combat style to the expansion while preserving the missile and flamethrower attacks associated with her earlier appearances.
