Unlike other early tools such as the Rebreather and the Shovel, obtaining the Stun Baton is a straightforward process if you know where to look.
Given its effectiveness against tougher mutants and cannibals, acquiring it early can provide a significant advantage in combat.
To find the Stun Baton, head west of the snowy mountain, near the entrance of the cave system that contains the Zipline Rope Gun.
The weapon is located at the base of a small waterfall, embedded in a pile of skulls.
This ominous placement serves as a warning, hinting at the dangers that lurk nearby. Follow the sound of running water, and once you spot the skull pile, simply interact with the Stun Baton to add it to your inventory.
If you crash near a specific area with a large pond and multiple streams flowing out of it, you can obtain the Stun Baton within minutes of starting the game. Look for a cave icon on your GPS for easier navigation.
How to Use the Stun Baton Effectively
The Stun Baton’s primary strength lies in its ability to momentarily incapacitate enemies, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
To unleash its shock attack, hold down the left-click button, and your character will thrust the baton forward, sending an electrical charge through the target.
This brief stun window allows you to reposition, escape, or switch to a more powerful weapon like the Modern Axe for a finishing blow.
However, the Stun Baton is battery-operated, meaning its effectiveness is limited by your supply of batteries.
Even without charge, the Stun Baton can still be used as a regular melee weapon by mashing the left-click button, making it a viable fallback option in combat.
Additionally, holding the right-click button allows you to block enemy attacks, adding defensive utility.
Tip: While the stun attack is powerful, there is no noticeable electricity animation when shocking enemies, which can make it harder to tell when they are fully incapacitated.
You can monitor the charge level by looking at the handle of the baton. When depleted, replenish its power by combining it with a battery in the inventory crafting menu.
How to Recharge the Stun Baton
Batteries are a crucial resource for maintaining the Stun Baton’s power, and the same applies to the Flashlight if you’ve found it. You can find them scattered throughout the world, primarily in 3D Printer locations and supply crates at points of interest.
Once you have batteries in your inventory, the baton will automatically draw power when needed, ensuring you’re always ready for battle.
A notification in the bottom-left corner of the UI will confirm when batteries have been consumed.
Some players have reported finding batteries in supply crates near the waterfall where the Stun Baton is located, though this appears to be random (RNG-based). It’s worth checking nearby crates for an early power source.
Obviously you’ll want to get to the point of acquiring the powerful Shotgun, but that comes much later in the game, so this little electrical weapon will have to do for the time being.
As of now, there is no way to directly recharge the Stun Baton beyond swapping in fresh batteries.
Attempts to combine it with a circuit board and tape do not work, though future updates may introduce a recharge mechanic.
With the Stun Baton in hand and a steady supply of batteries, you’ll have a reliable method of disabling enemies, making it a valuable tool for both offence and defence in Sons of the Forest.
