  • Her teaser trailer showcases new animations, outfit, and hairstyle.

Capcom has officially confirmed that Elena, the capoeira fighter from Kenya, will return as a playable character in Street Fighter 6 on June 5th, 2025.

The news was revealed through a short teaser trailer that premiered this week, offering fans their first glimpse at Elena’s updated design and in-game animations.

This release will also mark the launch of Street Fighter 6 on the Nintendo Switch 2, with the fighter arriving as part of the game’s Season 2 finale, following M. Bison, Terry Bogard, and Mai Shiranui.

First introduced in Street Fighter III: New Generation (1997), Elena stood out not just for her Kenyan heritage and unique visual design, but for her capoeira-based combat style, which blends dance and strikes with fluidity rarely seen in the genre.

Standing 6’0″, she is notably one of the tallest female characters in the series.

In Street Fighter 6, she returns with a refreshed look, now sporting pants, a flowing scarf, and a short hairstyle.

The trailer shows Elena training under a full moon, displaying acrobatic kicks and rhythmic movements that highlight her capoeira roots. Capcom has yet to reveal her full gameplay breakdown, but her signature Healing move has already reignited discussions among the community.

Developers Respond to Healing Concerns

Elena’s Healing ability, a special move that allows her to restore health mid-fight, was a divisive mechanic in Ultra Street Fighter IV, with some matches dragging out due to its tactical use.

However, director Takayuki Nakayama has previously acknowledged fan concerns, stating:

“We’re very aware of Healing’s impact. Please don’t worry — we’re balancing her carefully this time.”

This statement suggests that while Healing may return in some form, it’s being reconsidered to fit Street Fighter 6’s current gameplay balance.

Switch 2 Version to Launch with New Features

Elena’s release will coincide with Street Fighter 6’s debut on the Nintendo Switch 2, which launches the same day on June 5. The Switch 2 port will include all characters and stages released so far, effectively serving as a complete edition of the game.

Notably, Capcom is introducing two new gameplay modes exclusive to this version:

  • Calorie Contest: Players compete to burn the most calories using motion-based gameplay.
  • Gyro Battle: A gyro control mode that allows players to execute combos using motion sensors.

These features are designed to leverage the Switch 2’s motion and fitness-focused hardware, offering a fresh, casual-friendly way to play.

With Elena closing out Season 2 content, attention now turns to what’s next.

A recent leak suggests that Capcom is preparing to bring back more legacy fighters in Season 3, with announcements expected in the coming months.

Elena’s addition also impacts the Capcom Pro Tour 2025, though she will not appear in the early tournaments like Evo Japan and Combo Breaker, which both take place in May.

Competitive players can expect to see her debut at major events post-June.

Elena’s long-anticipated return signals a nostalgic yet modernised step for SF6.

Whether you’re diving in on the Switch 2 or revisiting the game on other platforms, June 5 is set to be a major date for the Street Fighter community.
