Key Highlights:

  • Starfield update hints at major platform expansion.
  • PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 ports now seem increasingly plausible.
  • DualSense features could redefine immersion in space exploration.

Bethesda’s space epic Starfield continues to evolve, and its most recent beta update may have done more than just tweak performance.

Speculation is mounting that Starfield could soon arrive on both the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, marking a major shift for one of Microsoft’s most high-profile exclusives.

Originally launched in September 2023 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, Starfield was positioned as a key console-seller.

However, recent developments suggest Bethesda may be preparing for a wider release.

With the addition of a new “Very Low” graphics setting in Starfield’s latest update (v1.15.214), Bethesda has made it easier for the game to run on lower-spec hardware, a move widely interpreted as preparation for a Nintendo Switch 2 version.

While there’s no official confirmation, this change aligns with Microsoft’s broader multiplatform strategy.

Bethesda has already shown interest in working with Nintendo’s next-gen hardware, and the new graphics mode is the first technical step needed to achieve that.

We’ve seen recent announcements like Star Wars Outlaws making the jump to the Switch 2, so it’s a very real possibility.

If this port becomes a reality, Starfield would be among the most ambitious open-world RPGs ever brought to a Nintendo platform.

Why Starfield on PS5 Makes Sense

Alongside Switch 2 rumours, talk of a PS5 port is gaining serious traction.

Industry insiders and past leaks have pointed to Starfield as one of the Xbox exclusives being considered for expansion. On paper, the move is bold. the sci-fi hit is a tentpole Xbox title, and letting it go multiplatform may seem like Microsoft diluting its identity.

But with Sea of Thieves and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle already making similar jumps, Starfield could follow the same path and benefit from it.

Starfield port on PS5 wouldn’t just be a technical transfer, it could enhance the experience.

The DualSense controller’s haptics and adaptive triggers offer a level of tactile feedback not present on Xbox or PC. Imagine feeling the rattle of a ship’s thrusters during takeoff or the kick of an exotic alien weapon as you explore unknown planets.

These features aren’t gimmicks when used right, they’re immersive tools.

Games like Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut and Marvels Spider-Man 2 have already shown what’s possible.

Starfield has the systems to match, from spaceflight to combat to environmental traversal, making DualSense integration a natural fit.

Bringing Starfield to other platforms isn’t just a matter of flipping a switch. On Switch 2, the biggest challenge will be maintaining scale without sacrificing frame rate or clarity.

Bethesda’s implementation of low graphics settings suggests they’re already addressing this.

For PS5, the adaptation is more about enhancement than compromise.

The hardware’s raw power can handle the game easily, which shifts focus to how the game plays rather than whether it can. Launching on Xbox was the start, but Starfield may ultimately become one of Bethesda’s most widely accessible RPGs.

A broader release could help reshape its mixed reception, giving new players a chance to engage with its vast universe on hardware they already own.

In turn, that expanded audience could influence how Bethesda continues to update and support the game, especially as the Shattered Space expansion was a moderate success.

If feedback from PlayStation and Switch players enters the development loop, Starfield might evolve in unexpected and welcome ways.

Would you welcome Starfield on PS5 or Switch 2, or should it remain an Xbox crown jewel?
