Bunkers in Sons of the Forest are where survival ends and story begins. These underground complexes hide game-defining gear, including keycards, high-tier weapons, and critical narrative moments.
Though since Patch 04, finding them is no longer as simple as following green GPS markers. You now need to activate seven POI laptops hidden across the island to reveal the bunker coordinates.
Here’s a full guide to every laptop and associated bunker – including where to find them, what tools you need, and what loot to expect inside.
1. Entertainment Bunker & POI Laptop
- Where: Northwest beach, near a potential spawn point
- Tools Needed: None
- Key Items Found: Rebreather, POI laptop, early supplies
The first laptop is just inland from the beach spawn, inside a boarded-up cave tucked among seaside rocks. Smash the planks with your axe to enter. Navigate toward the red crate near the rear – the laptop sits on a rock behind it. This activates the Entertainment Bunker on your GPS.
Before leaving, grab the Rebreather – it’s essential for later caves. The bunker itself, accessible via a cave entrance near a broken golf cart, contains a 3D printer, Guest Keycard, and chainsaw. Heavier weapons are recommended for this location due to mutant presence.
Quick Tip: Make sure to pickup the Flashlight before entering any bunkers that involve caves, as it will be hard to see and you’ll need a decent light source.
2. Maintenance Bunker A & POI Laptop
- Where: West of the snowy mountain
- Tools Needed: Rebreather
- Key Items Found: POI laptop, Shovel
Accessed via a cave that begins with a zipline, you’ll swim underwater using the Rebreather to reach the interior. Inside, the laptop is found before the Shovel, it sits near a dead soldier by a standalone light in the cave’s central chamber. Use this laptop to unlock Bunker A on the GPS.
Once outside, dig up the bunker entrance using the Shovel, it’s a dirt mound near the coast. This location also holds a 3D printer and the Maintenance Keycard, both vital for deeper bunkers.
3. Food and Dining Bunker & POI Laptop
- Where: Northwest of Maintenance Bunker A
- Tools Needed: Shovel, Maintenance Keycard
- Key Items Found: POI laptop, VIP Keycard, Crossbow, Shotgun rail
Food and Dining is found at a digsite marked after unlocking Maintenance A. Watch for nearby cannibal camps. Once dug up, descend into a small hallway with two rooms. The laptop is inside the kitchen area.
The 3D printer is here too, along with the VIP Keycard and an abundance of consumables. Don’t miss the Crossbow and shotgun rail either. This location ties directly into story progression.
4. Residential Bunker & POI Laptop
- Where: Northwest side of the island, near a large lake
- Tools Needed: Maintenance Keycard
- Key Items Found: POI laptop, Katana, Flashlight Attachment, Space Suit, Virginia’s Keycard
Found through a cave within a large rock structure, identified by two broken golf carts outside. Once inside, descend through corridors and hydroponic areas. Eventually, you’ll swim through flooded rooms until you reach a hallway with a security room on the left.
Inside, find the POI laptop on a desk by the monitors. Also here is Virginia’s Keycard, needed to access later areas of the game. Deeper in, you’ll find a boss fight against the Pufftons and some of the game’s best loot.
5. Maintenance Bunker B & POI Laptop
- Where: Western coast, near a river
- Tools Needed: Maintenance Keycard
- Key Items Found: POI laptop, Compound Bow, Guitar, Guest Keycard
This bunker appears after activating the Entertainment Bunker POI. You’ll enter a modern facility with a gym and spa, guarded by mutants. Progress through until you reach the pool bar. Behind the bar is a lounge where you’ll pick up the Guest Keycard and a Guitar.
Find the locked room in this area, it requires the Guest Keycard. Inside is the POI laptop revealing Maintenance Bunker B. Also located here is the Compound Bow, accessible through the apartment bathroom.
6. Maintenance Bunker C & POI Laptop
- Where: Southwest of the island, under a cannibal camp
- Tools Needed: Shovel, Guest Keycard
- Key Items Found: POI laptop, Revolver
Bunker C is dug up beneath an active cannibal camp, you’ll want to clear it first. Inside is a familiar maintenance layout. The POI laptop is on a table in the apartment section and reveals the final bunker.
The Revolver is found here in a small side room, along with general supplies. Expect resistance.
7. Luxury Bunker & POI Laptop
- Where: Southeast side of the island, past the mountains
- Tools Needed: VIP Keycard
- Key Items Found: POI laptop, Shotgun, Pyjamas, Space Suit, Cutscene, Solafite Upgrader Blueprint
To reach this location, travel either around or over the mountain. The bunker is embedded into the west face of a lake’s rock wall. Inside, descend through tight corridors until you reach a room with a hole in the floor. Crawl through and continue downward.
Eventually, you’ll trigger a major cutscene. Afterwards, proceed through corridors and mutants until you reach Level 2. Head to the furthest room in the second corridor, coated in slime and retrieve the final POI laptop from the desk.
This bunker contains endgame gear and lore, including the Space Suit (which can be equipped or given to Kelvin) and Shotgun. Entering this bunker initiates the final stage of the game, make sure you’ve explored everything beforehand.
The Solafite Upgrader Blueprint which is used to create the best armour in the game (Solafite Armour) can also be found at this location. To locate it, move carefully along the corridor inside the Luxury Bunker, descending the staircase to access the lower level. Next follow the clues to the chamber with the golden door, where a corpse clutching the blueprint for the Solafite Armour Upgrader lies.
Tips Before Entering Any Bunker
- Always bring: Rebreather, Shovel, Rope Gun, and appropriate Keycards.
- Stock up: Ammunition, batteries, meds, and food before descending.
- Build shelters: Near key bunkers to enable fast returns if needed.
- Play smart: Use stealth or ranged weapons in early bunkers with heavy mutant populations.
