The Chainsaw is one of the most useful late-game tools in Sons of The Forest, both for base building and for combat. It lets you cut down trees faster than any axe and can tear through enemies with its heavy attack. The trade-off is that it runs on batteries, so you’ll need to keep a supply charged if you plan on using it as your main cutting tool or weapon.
To get it, you first need the Maintenance A Keycard. That keycard is found by digging into the Maintenance A bunker with the Shovel and collecting it from the desk inside.
Once you’ve got it, make your way to the Entertainment Bunker on the western side of the island. The cave entrance is easy to miss, tucked near a vine-covered golf cart by a stream, marked by a pulsing blue screen icon on your GPS.
Bring a flashlight or plenty of flares. The bunker is massive, dimly lit, and crawling with mutants. It’s easy to get lost or cornered, so knowing the route ahead of time makes a difference.
A shotgun or other high-damage weapon is recommended if you want to clear enemies, but you can also sprint past most of them if you’re confident.
Inside, you’ll pass through a 3D printer room where you can stock up on resin, light bulbs, and solar panels. This room also has a bed, making it a good spot to save. Keep moving deeper until you hit the first Keycard door.
Use the Carl Planter card to access the gym, then move on toward the swimming pool, spa, and bar. Along the way you can pick up the Guitar, the Track Suit, and a stack of collectible notes.
After you collect the Arnold Crand Keycard from the nightclub, head back toward the swimming pool and use it on the second locked door. Past this is a white corridor filled with mutants. Push through until you reach a large dark room. In the corner, a corpse slumped on a yellow beanbag has the Chainsaw embedded in its chest. Grab it, and it will be added to your inventory.
Glitch tip: If you place the Chainsaw in the crafting area and then remove it, the battery will fully refill.
From here, you can exit by following the corridor past a small cutscene with Timmy LeBlanc. The tunnel eventually loops back out into the wilderness, though it’s still populated with enemies.
Stick to the right-hand path to reach the rope climb and daylight. The Chainsaw is game-changing for resource gathering and can make combat encounters trivial if you use our battery glitch above.
It is especially effective at defending choke points inside caves, though it burns through stamina quickly. Pair it with ranged weapons and traps to conserve energy and make the most of it.
