Star Citizen Unveils Four New Ships at Intergalactic Aerospace Expo

Key Highlights:

  • Star Citizen’s Intergalactic Aerospace Expo has unveiled four new ships so far, with more likely before the event ends.
  • The RSI Perseus, RSI Salvation, Drake Clipper and Drake Golem OX variant are all now available, priced between $55 and $800.
  • Star Citizen’s funding has climbed past $885 million and is on track to hit $900 million soon.

Star Citizen’s annual Intergalactic Aerospace Expo is underway, and this year’s event has turned into one of the most ship heavy showcases Cloud Imperium Games has held in some time. The expo is always a hotspot for new craft, but four fresh ships in just a few days is a strong haul even by Star Citizen’s standards.

The RSI Perseus kicked things off, entering the show as a new large gunship and immediately going up for purchase. It was quickly followed by three more additions to Star Citizen, expanding the lineup even further.

The RSI Salvation is a single seat salvage vessel designed for solo players who want to break into the salvage loop without committing to a larger crew based ship.

Drake Interplanetary has brought two ships of its own, including the Clipper, a multi role craft built for lone pilots, and the OX, a cargo focused variant of the Drake Golem. Across the board, prices range from $55 for the smaller entries through to $800 for the top end offerings.

Each ship has its own preview trailer, walking players through layouts, systems and intended roles. CIG tends to build these videos with an almost documentary flair, and the new set highlights the differences between each design: the Perseus’ heavy turret profile, the Salvation’s compact salvage rigs, the Clipper’s cockpit forward silhouette and the OX’s expanded hauling capacity. With several manufacturers still to take their turn at the expo, more reveals are expected before the free to play window closes.

The timing of these additions lines up with another milestone for the project. Star Citizen’s crowdfunding has now climbed past $885 million and is rapidly approaching $900 million. The game has been in development since 2012, with an alpha version available since 2016, but the funding trajectory hasn’t slowed.

Earlier this year the game moved to Alpha 4.0, a major update built around server meshing. This new system breaks the universe into individual nodes, letting planets, landing zones and stations run on separate servers while maintaining the illusion of a single seamless space. Performance issues stay localised to the node that’s struggling, keeping the wider experience stable.

With the expo still ongoing and more manufacturers waiting in the wings, players are expecting further reveals before the event wraps. Star Citizen’s ship catalogue remains the backbone of its long running crowdfunding model, and the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo continues to be the moment the project adds its most eye catching hardware.
