Star Fox Remake Is Already the Best-Selling Switch 2 eShop Game

Key Highlights:

  • Star Fox has become the best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop ahead of launch.
  • The remake arrives on June 25 and has overtaken current releases based on pre-orders alone.
  • The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales finished second in the latest charts.

Star Fox has climbed to the top of the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop charts despite not launching until June 25, highlighting just how much anticipation surrounds Nintendo’s remake of the classic N64 title.

According to the latest Nintendo Switch 2 eShop rankings for the week ending June 21, Star Fox sits at number one based purely on pre-orders. That means the upcoming remake has already overtaken established releases and some of the Switch 2’s biggest games before players have even had the chance to start playing.

The new version revives one of Nintendo’s most beloved shooters. Originally released as Star Fox 64 in 1997, the game remains widely regarded as the best entry in the series and one of the standout titles from the Nintendo 64 era. While the franchise has received remakes and smaller appearances over the years, fans have largely been waiting a decade for something substantial after the disappointing release of Star Fox Zero on Wii U in 2016.

The remake appears to have tapped into that nostalgia. With an entirely new Star Fox game announced, many fans see a modern reimagining of Star Fox 64 as the next best thing, especially since the original game has begun to show its age nearly three decades later.

The latest Nintendo Switch 2 eShop charts also show strong demand for several other titles. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales claimed second place, while Pokemon Pokopia secured third. Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book all remain among the platform’s top sellers.

The latest eShop charts also reveals some interesting trends beyond the overall rankings. In the download-only category, Rise of the Tomb Raider currently leads the pack, followed by Devil May Cry 5 and Red Dead Redemption Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Elsewhere, recently released games like Resident Evil Requiem continue to perform well, while upcoming titles such as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are already attracting attention ahead of launch, highlighting the healthy mix of new releases, remasters and established hits driving the Switch 2 eShop.

I think Star Fox reaching number one before launch says a lot about the demand Nintendo has been sitting on for years. The series has been largely absent since the Wii U era, and while a brand-new sequel would have generated even more excitement, a faithful remake of Star Fox 64 feels like a smart way to reintroduce Fox McCloud and his team to a new generation. If the sales momentum continues after release, Nintendo may finally have proof that the franchise deserves a bigger future.

For your information, a playable demo is out now which you can download and play to see if you like the game.

With launch day approaching, Star Fox looks well positioned to remain at the top of the Nintendo Switch 2 charts. Unless another major release surprises fans, the classic space shooter could end up becoming one of the console’s biggest exclusives of 2026.
