Key Highlights:

  • Complete guide covering Ghostface’s Fatalities, Animality, and Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1.
  • Platform-specific inputs with Input Distance and Execution Difficulty ratings for Fatalities and Animality.
  • Brutality requirements include Fighter Mastery ranks, Ghostface Killer forms, Super Meter requirements, hidden variations, Seasonal Store Brutalities, practical execution advice and video guide.

Ghostface joined Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns as the masked killer from the Scream franchise, with Billy Loomis serving as the primary Ghostface beneath the costume. His fighting style revolves around knife attacks, horror-film misdirection and assistance from additional Ghostface killers who can temporarily replace him during combat.

Ghostface has two character-specific Fatalities, the Critically Endangered Animality, The Klassic and seven character-specific Brutalities. Five unlock through Fighter Mastery, while Let’s Face It and Got A Surprise are Seasonal Store Brutalities. He also has a separate hidden Brutality variation tied to Always Outnumbered Upper.

How to Perform Ghostface’s First Fatality in MK1 (Slashing The Fourth Wall)

Input Distance: Close to Sweep Distance
Execution Difficulty: Easy

  • PlayStation: ⬇️, ➡️, ⬇️, 🅧
  • Xbox: ⬇️, ➡️, ⬇️, 🅐
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬇️, ➡️, ⬇️, 🅑

Slashing The Fourth Wall begins like a traditional Ghostface attack before pulling away from the fight entirely. The sequence reveals Johnny Cage playing Mortal Kombat 1 before another Ghostface appears behind him and turns the Fatality into a literal fourth-wall break.

The working range extends from directly beside the opponent out towards Sweep Distance. I recommend using Sweep Distance as the visual reference because it gives you enough room to enter the input cleanly while remaining comfortably inside the activation window.

How to Perform Ghostface’s Second Fatality in MK1 (Planning The Sequel)

Input Distance: Close to Sweep Distance
Execution Difficulty: Easy

  • PlayStation: ⬅️, ➡️, ⬅️, 🔺
  • Xbox: ⬅️, ➡️, ⬅️, 🅨
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬅️, ➡️, ⬅️, 🅧

Planning The Sequel brings a second Ghostface into the kill. The two masked attackers repeatedly ambush and stab the opponent before combining their attacks for the final dismemberment.

The same Close-to-Sweep range applies as Slashing The Fourth Wall. There is no need to crowd the opponent, so leaving a small amount of space makes the directional sequence easier to enter without affecting activation.

How to Perform Ghostface’s Animality in MK1 (Critically Endangered)

Input Distance: Sweep Distance to Full Screen
Execution Difficulty: Easy

  • PlayStation: ⬅️, ➡️, ⬇️, 🅾️
  • Xbox: ⬅️, ➡️, ⬇️, 🅑
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬅️, ➡️, ⬇️, 🅐

Critically Endangered transforms Ghostface into a huge condor that dives directly into the opponent’s chest. The bird tears through the open cavity before pulling the victim’s spine and attached head through their body.

The Animality has a much larger activation window than either Fatality. Once Ghostface is approximately Sweep Distance away, Critically Endangered remains available all the way to Full Screen.

The condor also gives Ghostface one of the less obvious Animality transformations in the roster, replacing the character’s knife-based attacks with a predator capable of tearing its victim apart using its beak and claws.

For the animal transformation used by every other playable fighter, see our complete Mortal Kombat 1 Animality guide.

All Ghostface Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1

Ghostface has The Klassic and five character-specific Brutalities unlocked through Fighter Mastery. Feelin’ A Little Woozy, A Bit Mad, Every Time!, Please Don’t Kill Me and Deputy Dead unlock at Mastery Ranks 1, 4, 7, 11 and 18 respectively.

Two additional Brutalities, Let’s Face It and Got A Surprise, are available through the Seasonal Store and sit outside Fighter Mastery progression.

Several Ghostface Brutalities also depend on which killer is currently active. The Original Ghostface Killer, Black Dragon Assassin and Black Dragon Enforcer do not share every special move. During moves that support Ghostface Killer Swap, holding Flip Stance changes to Black Dragon Assassin, while holding Throw changes to Black Dragon Enforcer. Each swap consumes one bar of Super Meter and the replacement killer remains active temporarily or until Ghostface is hit.

The Klassic

Unlock Requirement: Available by default

  • PlayStation: ⬇️ + 🔺
  • Xbox: ⬇️ + 🅨
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬇️ + 🅧

Final Hit: Uppercut
Additional Condition: Hold Back Punch during the Final Hit.

Ghostface performs the traditional Mortal Kombat uppercut and removes the opponent’s head.

Keep Back Punch held as the Uppercut connects rather than releasing the attack immediately.

Feelin’ A Little Woozy

Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 1

  • PlayStation: L1 or ⬜ + 🅧
  • Xbox: LB or 🅧 + 🅐
  • Nintendo Switch: L or 🅨 + 🅑

Required Form: Black Dragon Assassin or Black Dragon Enforcer
Final Hit: Liver Alone! (Back Throw)
Additional Condition: Hold Down during the Final Hit.

Feelin’ A Little Woozy requires one of Ghostface’s two alternate killers rather than the Original Ghostface Killer. The Back Throw brings another masked attacker into the sequence before the opponent bleeds out from the finishing stab.

Make sure Black Dragon Assassin or Black Dragon Enforcer is already active before going for the Final Hit. If Original Ghostface is still active, a Killer Swap costs one bar of Super Meter before the required form becomes available.

Once the Back Throw begins, hold Down through the finishing portion of the animation.

Brutality Variation: The universal MK11-style Screen Throw can also be triggered from Ghostface’s Back Throw. Instead of using the Feelin’ A Little Woozy condition, hold Up + Back Punch immediately after initiating the Back Throw.

The Screen Throw is a separate universal branch, so do not enter the Down input used for Feelin’ A Little Woozy.

A Bit Mad

Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 4

  • PlayStation: ⬇️, ⬅️ + 🅾️ + R2
  • Xbox: ⬇️, ⬅️ + 🅑 + RT
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬇️, ⬅️ + 🅐 + ZR

Final Hit: Enhanced Always Outnumbered
Meter Requirement: At least two bars of Super Meter
Additional Condition: Rapidly press any basic attack button six times during the Final Hit.

A Bit Mad uses Enhanced Always Outnumbered to bring a second Ghostface into the attack. Both killers repeatedly stab the opponent before turning towards the camera together at the end of the Brutality.

The two-bar Super Meter requirement is mandatory. This is easy to overlook because most Enhanced special moves use a single bar, but Enhanced Always Outnumbered specifically needs two.

Start rapidly pressing any basic attack button once the Enhanced attack connects. Front Punch, Back Punch, Front Kick or Back Kick can all satisfy the six-input condition.

Brutality Variation: Always Outnumbered also has a separate hidden Brutality that does not use the Enhanced version.

  • PlayStation: ⬇️, ⬅️ + 🅾️, then hold 🔺
  • Xbox: ⬇️, ⬅️ + 🅑, then hold 🅨
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬇️, ⬅️ + 🅐, then hold 🅧

Final Hit: Always Outnumbered Upper
Additional Condition: The opponent must not be standing in the corner. Hold Back Punch during the Final Hit.

The second Ghostface performs the rising attack and decapitates the opponent from behind.

The corner restriction is important. If the opponent is backed fully against the edge of the arena, create some space before attempting the hidden version.

Every Time!

Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 7

  • PlayStation: 🅾️, 🅾️, 🅾️
  • Xbox: 🅑, 🅑, 🅑
  • Nintendo Switch: 🅐, 🅐, 🅐

Final Hit: Stab Trilogy
Additional Condition: Hold Back Punch during the Final Hit.

Every Time! extends Ghostface’s Stab Trilogy into a prolonged knife attack, with Ghostface continuing to stab the opponent until a large wound is left through their torso.

Complete all three Back Kick inputs normally, then keep Back Punch held as the final attack connects.

The Brutality condition uses a different button from the three attacks that start Stab Trilogy, so do not replace the final Back Kick with Back Punch.

Please Don’t Kill Me

Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 11

  • PlayStation: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅧 + R2
  • Xbox: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅐 + RT
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅑 + ZR

Required Form: Black Dragon Assassin
Final Hit: Enhanced Black Dragon Ball
Meter Requirement: At least one bar of Super Meter
Additional Condition: Hold Down during the Final Hit.

Please Don’t Kill Me is exclusive to Black Dragon Assassin. The Enhanced Black Dragon Ball forces the opponent to the ground before the masked killer repeatedly stabs them.

I recommend switching to Black Dragon Assassin before bringing the opponent into Final Hit health. Trying to manage the Killer Swap and Enhanced Black Dragon Ball at the same moment adds an unnecessary failure point.

Remember that these are two separate meter considerations. Enhanced Black Dragon Ball requires one bar, while changing from Original Ghostface to Black Dragon Assassin also costs one bar if the swap still needs to be performed.

Once the required form is active, execute Enhanced Black Dragon Ball and hold Down as it connects.

Deputy Dead

Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 18

  • PlayStation: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅧 + R2, ⬜
  • Xbox: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅐 + RT, 🅧
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅑 + ZR, 🅨

Required Form: Original Ghostface Killer
Final Hit: Enhanced Rushing Stab
Meter Requirement: At least one bar of Super Meter
Additional Condition: Hold Up during the Final Hit.

Deputy Dead requires the Original Ghostface Killer. Enhanced Rushing Stab cuts deeply through the opponent before Ghostface finishes the sequence with his voice changer.

Check the active killer before attempting the move. If Black Dragon Assassin or Black Dragon Enforcer is still on-screen, the required Original Ghostface special is unavailable.

Perform Enhanced Psychotic Rush, follow immediately with Front Punch for Rushing Stab, then hold Up as the Final Hit connects.

Seasonal Store Brutalities

Ghostface has two additional Brutalities available through the Seasonal Store. Let’s Face It and Got A Surprise sit outside his five Fighter Mastery unlocks and remain usable once acquired.

Let’s Face It

Unlock Requirement: Seasonal Store

  • PlayStation: ⬇️, ➡️ + ⬜
  • Xbox: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅧
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅨

Required Form: Black Dragon Assassin
Final Hit: Knife Toss
Input Distance: Jump Distance or farther
Additional Condition: Hold Back during the Final Hit.

Let’s Face It requires Black Dragon Assassin to kill the opponent with Knife Toss, sending the blade directly through their forehead.

Distance is mandatory. The projectile can hit at closer ranges, but the Brutality only activates when Ghostface is at least Jump Distance away.

Set Black Dragon Assassin up first, establish Jump Distance, then perform Knife Toss and keep Back held as the blade connects.

Got A Surprise

Unlock Requirement: Seasonal Store

  • PlayStation: ⬅️, ⬇️, ➡️ + ⬜
  • Xbox: ⬅️, ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅧
  • Nintendo Switch: ⬅️, ⬇️, ➡️ + 🅨

Required Form: Original Ghostface Killer
Final Hit: Father Death
Additional Condition: Hold Forward during the Final Hit.

Got A Surprise is exclusive to the Original Ghostface Killer. Father Death becomes the finishing attack, with Ghostface driving his knife into the opponent before they collapse.

The main requirement is ensuring Original Ghostface is active. Once he is, enter Father Death normally and keep Forward held through the Final Hit.

Unlike Please Don’t Kill Me and Deputy Dead, Got A Surprise does not require an Enhanced special move, so there is no additional Super Meter requirement attached to the finishing attack itself.

The above Mortal Kombat 1 Ghostface showcase includes Slashing The Fourth Wall, Planning The Sequel, Critically Endangered and all seven character-specific Brutalities. It provides a useful visual companion for Ghostface’s main finisher collection, particularly the Brutalities that depend on different Ghostface killers.

As one of Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns’ three guest fighters, Ghostface sits naturally alongside Conan the Barbarian and the T-1000. All three joined the playable roster through Kombat Pack 2, making our Conan and T-1000 finisher guides the natural next stops in the character network.
