Grand Theft Auto Online (GTA Online) is set to launch its next extensive update, slated for release on June 13th. This update offers not only fresh content but also valuable tweaks to further refine the gaming experience for its players.
Introducing GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries – A Battle Against Merryweather
Despite the advancing years of the game, GTA Online consistently offers regular updates that continue to breathe new life into the game, injecting it with fresh events, missions, and enhancements. Notable content updates such as Dr Dre’s The Contract and Los Santos’ Drug Wars, have augmented new money-making methods, upgrade unlocks, and an array of thrilling missions. With Rockstar Games remaining guarded about the progress of Grand Theft Auto 6, GTA Online is on course to retain fans’ engagement and enthusiasm for the franchise.
The forthcoming update, termed GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries, is set to involve players in combat against Merryweather, along with “other dangerous adversaries”. Players can align themselves with a group known as Los Santos Angels, whose objective is to bring down Merryweather and its campaign to monopolise the criminal underworld. Charlie Reed, a familiar NPC from GTA Online, will reappear, guiding players through a diverse range of missions, from data hacking to deploying explosives against targets spread across Los Santos.

In terms of fresh content, the Mammoth Avenger is set to gain fresh upgrades, inclusive of a comprehensive Operations Terminal and weapon enhancements. Players can now own and operate the Avenger without the need for a hangar, offering greater freedom to invest GTA$ in procuring and enhancing the aircraft rather than on hangar storage. However, those who already own or choose to purchase a hangar will also be rewarded with added benefits, such as the ability to customise their Avenger directly from their hangar. The game will also welcome the addition of a new weapon, the Tactical SMG.
Quality of Life Improvements in the New GTA Online Update
Moreover, the update promises a host of quality-of-life improvements. These include the ability to restore all destroyed vehicles simultaneously through one’s insurance, simplified methods of distinguishing garages, and the ability to sprint with a toggle button rather than the continuous holding of a button. These enhancements, alongside the new content, are set to launch simultaneously across all existing GTA Online platforms, offering players much to anticipate in the lead-up to June 13th.
While GTA Online does exhibit signs of age in some respects, its continuous updates ensure player engagement remains high, much to the delight of its fans. This is particularly poignant considering the fate of Red Dead Online.
Despite its younger age and improved visuals and mechanics, Red Dead Online’s major game updates have already drawn to a close, leaving fans dejected with its unrealised potential. As for how long GTA Online will continue to be supported in its current form is uncertain. Still, it’s likely Rockstar will persist in introducing new content, vehicles, and weaponry until GTA 6, and its expected online component, takes centre stage.
GTA Online is available for play on PS4, PS5, Xbox One Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC.
