Key Highlights

  • The Grave Robber is a Merchant Request side quest added to the Resident Evil 4 remake.
  • Players must destroy matching emblems on twin tombstones in the church graveyard.
  • The request note is found outside the church entrance.
  • The reward for completing is 2 Spinels from the Merchant.
  • It must be finished before the end of Chapter 5 in the game.

In the Resident Evil 4 remake, Capcom added new Merchant Request side quests as extra challenges for players. These are started by picking up the Merchant’s cryptic blue notes scattered around levels. Completing them earns Spinels – special currency used to purchase useful items from the Merchant’s unique stock.

One of these favours is called ‘Grave Robber‘, which tasks players with desecrating twin tombstones at the church. It is the fourth request from the Merchant and this guide will show you how to complete it.

Starting the Grave Robber Request

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Grave Robber Blue Note Request

To begin the Grave Robber side quest, players need to locate the corresponding blue note outside the Church area. When facing the front entrance door to the stone church building, turn right and head down the first path on the left. Follow it to the end to find a small treasure chest, with the blue note resting on the ground to its left. Interacting with the note adds Grave Robber to Leon Kennedy’s Merchant Request log.

While reading the note provides some narrative background, it is not actually necessary to complete the quest. However, it does reveal that the deceased twins joined Los Illuminados – the cult behind Ashley Graham’s kidnapping – hence why the Merchant wants their graves disturbed.

Finding the Twin Tombstones

After picking up the request, players need to make their way to the graveyard north/northwest of the Church to search for the twin tombstones. Reference the map below to see the exact location circled in red:

Head towards the front part of the graveyard, where there is a large fallen tree lying at an angle. Positioned in front of this tree stand two tombstones with identical engravings. Both feature a symbol resembling the letter ‘U’ but with two small spikes protruding from the top. These are the twin graves that need to be desecrated to finish the job for the Merchant.

Destroying the Tombstone Emblems

To complete the Grave Robber favour, players simply need to attack and destroy the engraved symbols on both tombstones. This can be achieved by either:

  • Shooting them with a firearm
  • Stabbing them repeatedly with a knife

The emblems may take some hits to shatter completely. Once the twin engravings have been smashed, the quest is finished.

Completing the Request

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Grave Robber Merchant Reward

With the gravestones now successfully desecrated, return to speak with the Merchant at any point to claim the reward. This will earn Leon 2 Spinels, which can be exchanged in the Merchant’s special goods menu.

However, it is important to note the Grave Robber request must be completed before reaching the end of Chapter 5 in the story (The Villa section) otherwise it will fail. So don’t leave it too long after picking up the initial blue note.

Additional Details

Aside from the primary objective, here are some extra tips for players taking on the Grave Robber challenge:

  • Knife attacks to break the emblems could preserve handgun ammo
  • There is only one enemy to fight at the graveyard itself
  • Multiple Merchant encounters means he can be found almost anywhere
  • Spinels allow the purchase of rare goods like Treasure Maps and Herbs

The 3rd Merchant request was the boat fuel which we covered previously. The next is the blue medallions located at the quarry and fish farm areas.

Destroying tombstones may sound morbid, but for Resident Evil 4 players interested in more gameplay variety, these new side activities offer extra goals to accomplish between story missions.

Tracking down blue notes could lead to lucrative rewards from the Merchant’s special stock as well. Just be sure to smash those twin emblems before the Grave Robber job expires!
