Where to Find Vipers for the Viper Hunter Merchant Request
The Viper Hunter objective in Resident Evil 4 Remake requires players to sell three Vipers to the Merchant. Vipers spawn in multiple areas across the game, so the objective can be completed at almost any point once you start the task. The Blue Request Note is pinned opposite the Merchant outside the Town Hall and mentions that the snakes are needed to treat a gravely ill friend.
Tip: You do not need to hold all three Vipers at once. You can sell them one by one if you want to free inventory space while collecting the others.
While Vipers may appear in various places throughout the game, the note can be found early on. As such, several of them conveniently spawn near the request note itself.
Viper Locations in the Village
Immediately after taking the Viper Hunter request, there are two reliable Viper spawns located in the Village.
Important: Vipers can attack instantly when the crate breaks, so be ready to shoot immediately.
Inside the Town Hall
The first Viper can be found inside a destructible wooden box on the storage shelf to the left upon entering the Town Hall. Use the Insignia Key in Chapter 3 – The Lake to access the Town Hall and locate it in the breakable box on wooden shelves. Be sure to kill and then collect this snake before pushing through the Church gates, or it will disappear.
Cliffside Path Shack
A second Viper lurks inside a breakable crate within the small shack along the cliffside path connecting the Church and Quarry. This one also tends to disappear if you leave the area for too long after breaking its container.
Plentiful Vipers at the Fish Farm
The Fish Farm area contains no fewer than four Vipers lurking around. With the location coming shortly after the Village in the main story, it presents an excellent opportunity to find any remaining snakes needed to complete the job.
Vipers in the Fish Farm roam around more freely. But a few have appeared in consistent spots like on the wooden ramps and northern water.
Note: Having Closed Captions enabled can help track them by displaying hiss cues on screen.
Common sightings include:
- Viper 1: Found after walking up the first ramp, near the shack with a life preserver.
- Viper 2: Positioned on the wooden ramp near the center of the Fish Farm.
- Viper 3: Lurking in the water on the northern end of the area.
- Viper 4: Located near the far west end, close to the shack housing the boat fuel.
Completing the RE4 Remake Viper Hunter Objective
Once acquired, Vipers can be sold to the Merchant at any point before endgame to make progress on the Viper Hunter objective. You do not need to sell all three at once. After selling the third, the request completes and you receive the reward.
The reward for turning in three Vipers is four Spinel gems worth 3000 Pesetas total. Spinels serve as valuable treasure to sell for a good amount of cash.
I cannot stress the importance of boosting your viper-tracking skills by activating Subtitles and Closed Caption Subtitles in the Options menu. This feature provides on-screen notifications when vipers are nearby, making it ten times easier to locate all of them.
With no deadline, Viper Hunter can be finished whenever you come across three of these elusive snakes in your playthrough. While the early Village areas provide a few reliable spawns, Vipers may also appear later on if you need more. Just keep an ear out for that iconic hiss indicating one lurks nearby ready to be collected.
