The Resident Evil 4 Remake Pest Control Merchant Request requires Leon to kill three rats inside the Abandoned Factory in Chapter 2.
One rat is in the corridor near the factory exit. The other two are inside the large room containing the furnaces.
You can kill the rats in any order. Their locations remain the same on every difficulty.
The video shows the fastest route to all three Abandoned Factory rats and completes Pest Control in approximately one minute.
Where to Find the Pest Control Request
The Pest Control Blue Request Note is attached to the machinery beside the Merchant outside the Abandoned Factory.
The note appears shortly after Leon retrieves his equipment and leaves the factory at the beginning of Chapter 2.
Objective: Exterminate all the rats.
Area: Abandoned Factory
Reward: 3 Spinels
You can kill the rats before collecting the Blue Request Note. Any rats already killed still count towards the objective.
Return through the nearby factory gate after collecting the request.
Pest Control Rat 1 Location
The first rat is in the damaged northern corridor near the route connecting the Abandoned Factory to the Merchant.
Enter the factory from the Merchant’s side and turn into the corridor beside the broken wall. Listen for squeaking and watch the floor as the rat runs around the debris.
Shoot the rat once or use the knife when it runs close to Leon.
Pest Control Rat 2 Location
Continue through the Abandoned Factory until Leon climbs through the shattered window.
The second rat runs around the floor immediately beyond the window, close to the boxes and debris.
I found this rat easiest to hit by waiting beside the window for a moment rather than chasing it around the room.
Pest Control Rat 3 Location
The third rat is in the same large factory room as the second rat.
Look near the two furnaces on the opposite side of the room. The rat circles the furnace area and may briefly disappear behind the surrounding objects.
Listen for squeaking if it moves out of sight. Remain near the furnaces and wait for it to complete another circuit rather than searching the entire factory.
Can You Use the Knife to Kill the Rats?
The knife kills each rat with one successful hit and saves ammunition.
Move close to the rat and attack when it turns towards Leon or becomes trapped against an object. Chasing it while repeatedly swinging can consume more time than firing one handgun round.
A handgun is the simplest option because every rat dies from a single accurate shot.
How to Complete Pest Control
The Pest Control objective updates automatically after Leon kills the third rat.
Return to the Merchant outside the Abandoned Factory and speak to him. The Merchant awards 3 Spinels and marks the request as complete.
Spinels can be spent through the Merchant’s Trade menu on items that are not purchased with Pesetas.
Pest Control also counts towards the Jack of All Trades challenge, which requires the player to complete every Merchant Request in one playthrough.
The Castle later introduces More Pest Control, which places three additional rats across the Grand Hall, Dining Hall and Library route.
