The oversized fish swims near the Boat House on the southeastern side of the Lake. Approach it by boat, kill it with a harpoon and collect it from the water.
Selling the Lunker Bass earns 5,000 Pesetas and completes Merchant Request #7 for an additional 4 Spinels.
Where to Find the Catch Me a Big Fish Blue Request Note
The Blue Note linked to this request can be found behind the Insignia Gate at the Lakeside Settlement, posted to a wooden beam. Interacting with this note triggers the request and displays a grainy in-game photograph showing where the Lunker Bass swims on the lake.
Tip: You collect the Blue Note by opening the Insignia Gate with the Insignia Key, which leads through a cave to the request location.
Checking the note is optional but helps visualise where to travel once you reach the lake by boat.
Important: This Merchant Request must be finished before entering the Church at the end of Chapter 4. If you progress too far, the opportunity disappears permanently.
Harpooning the Lunker Bass
With the Blue Note’s clue in hand, players need to head to the Boat House on the lake’s southeastern edge. Here the Lunker Bass can be spotted swimming in the waters out front. To make this task even easier, refer to the map below that has the exact location of where to find it.
The Lunker Bass looks nothing like the standard Black Bass or Large Bass seen elsewhere in the game. It is far larger, easily visible in the dark lake water, and unmistakable once spotted.
Once players see the target, they need to kill it using the harpoon obtained after defeating Del Lago. One clean harpoon shot will take down this swimming giant. Players can then steer closer on their boat to physically collect the dead Lunker Bass.
What If the Lunker Bass Is Not There?
The Lunker Bass may not appear immediately when Leon first approaches the Boat House.
If you cannot find it, travel to another part of the Lake and return. The fish can appear on a subsequent visit.
Also check that you are searching near the Boat House, not the Fish Farm or the Lake Jetty where Leon previously collected Boat Fuel.
The request requires the specific Lunker Bass. Selling an ordinary Black Bass or Large Bass will not complete it.
Selling the Lunker Bass and Claiming the Reward
Once the Lunker Bass is in Leon’s inventory, return to the Merchant southwest of the Lake.
Open the Sell menu and sell the fish for 5,000 Pesetas.
The sale completes Catch Me a Big Fish and awards 4 Spinels, which can be exchanged for special items through the Merchant’s Trade menu.
Do not eat the Lunker Bass before selling it. Although the fish restores health, consuming it removes the item needed for the request.
Complete Catch Me a Big Fish during Chapter 4, before returning to the Church and progressing with Ashley. Once Leon leaves the Lake section, he cannot freely return to catch another fish.
Selling it immediately also frees the large amount of Attaché Case space occupied by the Lunker Bass.
