One of the many optional Merchant Requests players can undertake in Capcom’s 2023 Resident Evil 4 Remake is called Catch Me a Big Fish. This unique side quest is the 7th request and challenges players to track down and catch an aquatic behemoth known as the Lunker Bass.
Actually locating this elusive giant fish can prove tricky without knowing where to look in the dark and ominous waters of the Village Lake. This mini walkthrough shows the exact route and harpoon method.
Using the Blue Note as a Guide
The Blue Note linked to this request can be found behind the Insignia Gate at the Lakeside Settlement, posted to a wooden beam. Interacting with this note triggers the request and displays a grainy in-game photograph showing where the Lunker Bass swims on the lake.
Tip: You collect the Blue Note by opening the Insignia Gate with the Insignia Key, which leads through a cave to the request location.
Checking the note is optional but helps visualise where to travel once you reach the lake by boat.
Important: This Merchant Request must be finished before entering the Church at the end of Chapter 4. If you progress too far, the opportunity disappears permanently.
Harpooning the Lunker Bass
With the Blue Note’s clue in hand, players need to head to the Boat House on the lake’s southeastern edge. Here the Lunker Bass can be spotted swimming in the waters out front. To make this task even easier, refer to the map below that has the exact location of where to find it.
The Lunker Bass looks nothing like the standard Black Bass or Large Bass seen elsewhere in the game. It is far larger, easily visible in the dark lake water, and unmistakable once spotted.
Once players see the target, they need to kill it using the harpoon obtained after defeating Del Lago. One clean harpoon shot will take down this swimming giant. Players can then steer closer on their boat to physically collect the dead Lunker Bass.
Of course, they’ll need at least one open inventory slot to pick up this key item after harpooning it.
You only need one Lunker Bass and it does not respawn, so make sure you collect it before leaving.
I also recommend that you avoid eating the Lunker Bass after picking it up. It restores a large amount of health, but doing that will void the request and you will need to reload a previous save.
With the fish in hand, the next step is visiting the Merchant to complete this lucrative Request.
Selling the Fish for Rewards
Upon selling the rare Lunker Bass to him, the Merchant will fork over 4 Spinels and 5,000 Pesetas as a reward. The Spinels are useful for upgrading weapons and gear, while the bonus cash can be put toward new guns or supplies.
And that wraps up everything players need to know to finish the Resident Evil 4 Remake Catch Me a Big Fish side quest! Locating the Blue Note, harpooning the Lunker Bass itself, and selling it to the Merchant checks all required boxes. Just remember to catch this fish prior to entering the Church in Chapter 4, or this opportunity will be lost!
