Egg Hunt in Resident Evil 4 Remake requires Leon to find a Gold Chicken Egg and sell it to the Merchant during Chapter 4.
The egg is located at a small chicken enclosure on the eastern shore of the Lake. Travel there by boat, collect the egg from the ground near the back of the enclosure and return to the Merchant.
Selling the Gold Chicken Egg earns 9,000 Pesetas, while completing Merchant Request #6 rewards another 3 Spinels.
Where to Find the Egg Hunt Blue Request Note
The Egg Hunt Blue Request Note is attached to a stone wall near the boat dock at the Mural Cave in Chapter 4.
After defeating Del Lago, follow the route through the Mural Cave towards the Lake. The note is on the wall immediately before Leon reaches the boat.
Objective: Sell a Gold Chicken Egg.
Area: Chicken Enclosure.
Reward: 3 Spinels.
The Egg Hunt Blue Request Note does not reveal where the egg is hidden, leaving Leon to search the surrounding Lake area.
The Gold Chicken Egg can be collected before reading the note. However, picking up the egg does not complete the request because the Merchant specifically wants Leon to sell it.
Where to Find the Gold Chicken Egg in Chapter 4
Leon gains access to the Lake after collecting the Boat Fuel in Chapter 3 and defeating Del Lago.
Chapter 4 provides another boat at the Mural Cave, allowing Leon to explore the Lake and its surrounding landing areas.
From the Mural Cave dock, follow these steps:
- Take the boat east across the Lake, towards the small landing area beyond the central shipwreck.
- Dock at the eastern shoreline, where several chickens roam inside a fenced enclosure.
- Walk towards the back of the enclosure, past the wooden crates and scattered debris.
- Look along the eastern edge for the Gold Chicken Egg lying on the ground.
- Collect the egg and return to the boat.
The eastern Lake landing leads to a small enclosure containing chickens and the Gold Chicken Egg.
The red circle marks the chicken enclosure on the eastern shore of the Lake.
You do not need to wait for a chicken to lay the Gold Chicken Egg. It is already on the ground at a fixed location.
The area also contains ordinary Chicken Eggs and a Velvet Blue resting on a barrel near the cages. Collect those items before returning to the boat.
How to Complete Egg Hunt and Claim 3 Spinels
With the Gold Chicken Egg in Leon’s inventory, return to the Merchant southwest of the Lake.
Open the Sell menu and sell the egg for 9,000 Pesetas.
The sale completes Egg Hunt and awards 3 Spinels, which can be exchanged through the Merchant’s Trade menu for special items and upgrades.
Do not eat or throw the Gold Chicken Egg before selling it. Either action consumes the item without completing the request.
I would sell it during the same Lake visit rather than risk consuming it or carrying it into the next chapter. The reward is available immediately, and completing the sale removes any concern about missing the request later.
IMPORTANT: You must complete Egg Hunt before the end of Chapter 5. The point of no return is crossing the rope bridge from the Farm towards the extraction point after rescuing Ashley. Make sure the Gold Chicken Egg is collected and the request is handed in before leaving the lake region.
The safest approach is to collect and sell the Gold Chicken Egg during Chapter 4.
Is There Another Gold Chicken Egg in Resident Evil 4 Remake?
Yes. A second Gold Chicken Egg is available in Chapter 12, inside the Square Lock Box in the Castle’s Throne Room.
Leon needs the Cubic Device to open the box.
However, this later egg is not a reliable way to recover a missed Egg Hunt request. The original Village request becomes unavailable long before Chapter 12.
The second egg has a connection to The Disgrace of the Salazar Family, another Merchant Request involving an egg in the Throne Room.
That request requires Leon to throw an egg at Ramon Salazar’s portrait. An ordinary Chicken Egg works, so there is no need to sacrifice the valuable Gold Chicken Egg to deface the painting.
For Egg Hunt, the Chapter 4 Lake location remains the intended and most practical solution.
