In Resident Evil 4 Remake, one of the more peculiar side quests is The Disgrace of the Salazar Family, a Merchant request that has you deface Ramon Salazar’s portrait in a fittingly bizarre way. This guide will walk you through finding and defacing the portrait, a seemingly cryptic task that can leave players scratching their heads.
Here’s everything you need to know to complete this mission and earn 4 Spinels.
Starting the Request: The Disgrace of the Salazar Family
The Blue Request Note for this mission can be found at the beginning of Chapter 12, right next to the Merchant’s cubby near the Ballroom elevator on a wall. Once you’ve picked up the request, you’ll be tasked with defacing a portrait of the diminutive villain, Ramon Salazar. However, unlike typical defacing, shooting or stabbing the portrait won’t cut it.
Pro Tip: The note provides a grainy image of where the portrait is located, but don’t worry—we’ll guide you to its exact location and explain how to complete this odd task.
Finding Ramon Salazar’s Portrait in the Throne Room
The portrait of Ramon Salazar is located in the Throne Room, which you briefly passed through in Chapter 10 before being dropped into the Depths by Salazar. In Chapter 12, the once-grand Throne Room is devoid of life. The only occupants are a handful of zealous guards, stationed in the area where the double Garrador fight previously took place. Here’s how to return to the Throne Room:
- Start by heading to the Ballroom and exit through the door on the eastern side.
- Pass through the Antechamber, where you’ll encounter a handful of enemies. Take them down and proceed eastward.
- Once you’re in the Throne Room, look to your left as you walk up to the altar—you’ll see Ramon’s portrait hanging on the wall.
Quick Tip: Don’t forget to clear out any enemies in the area before focusing on the portrait. Though the room is mostly abandoned, a few zealots are still lurking.
Defacing the Portrait: You’re Going to Need an Egg
Now that you’ve located Salazar’s portrait, here’s where things get weird. Bullets, knives, and explosives won’t work on this stubborn artwork. The only way to successfully deface it is by throwing an egg at it.
But where do you get an egg?
Luckily, there are two chickens roaming around the Throne Room. Wait patiently for a minute or two, and they’ll lay an egg. Pick it up and open your inventory to equip it.
Once you’ve got your egg, aim at Ramon’s portrait just as you would with a grenade and throw it to complete the Merchant Request.
Important: If you’re lucky enough to have a Gold Chicken Egg, it’s best to save it for a more valuable purpose—like selling it to the Merchant for extra cash.
Bonus Loot: The Gold Egg and the Square Lock Box
Before leaving the Throne Room, take a moment to collect some extra loot. Directly across from Ramon’s portrait is a Square Lock Box. Use the Cubic Device to unlock it, and you’ll be rewarded with a Gold Chicken Egg. This valuable treasure can either be used to complete the Egg Hunt Merchant Request or sold for a hefty sum.
Once you’ve successfully defaced Ramon’s portrait and grabbed the Gold Egg, return to the Merchant to claim your 4 Spinels as a reward for completing The Disgrace of the Salazar Family.
