Konami has released Ver.2.0.0 for the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, bringing substantial improvements to the beloved stealth-action compilation. This update, available from September 25th, 2024, introduces new graphics options and control settings for select titles in the collection.
The most notable enhancements target Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, two critically acclaimed entries in the Metal Gear franchise.
Players can now access expanded screen settings, including new resolution presets that promise to sharpen visuals through advanced upscaling techniques.
Under the new “Resolution” option in the Screen settings menu, users can choose between three presets:
- “Original Mode“: Displays the game at its original resolution
- “Adjusted Mode“: Upscales the game to the highest possible resolution for the player’s monitor
- “Custom“: Allows fine-tuning of internal resolution, upscaling, and movie quality
These new options offer players unprecedented control over the visual presentation of these classic titles, allowing them to balance between authenticity and modern display capabilities.
In addition to graphical improvements, the update introduces expanded control settings for both games. Players can now customise controller, keyboard, and mouse inputs directly from the in-game pause menu.
The update also adds mouse support for MGS2, enhancing the PC gaming experience.
While these major changes focus on MGS2 and MGS3, the update also addresses minor issues in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. However, specific details about these fixes were not provided in the patch notes which can be viewed here.
The Ver.2.0.0 update also brings Steam Trading Cards and Badges support to the collection’s Metal Gear Solid titles. Interestingly, Konami notes that players don’t need to update to access these features for the first Metal Gear Solid game.
Currently, this update is only available for the Steam version of the collection. Release dates for other platforms will be announced later, according to Konami.
Noriaki Okamura, longtime series producer, has confirmed that work on Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is underway. Okamura has asked for patience from fans, likely aiming to avoid the issues that plagued the first volume’s launch.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated remake of MGS3, titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, is still in development. While initially slated for a 2024 release, recent rumours suggest it might be pushed to 2025.
It got a new gameplay trailer in June that showcased the stunning graphics of the reboot courtesy of it running on Unreal Engine 5.
