Leaked Mortal Kombat 1 Movie Skins Signal Major Content Updates Ahead

Mortal Kombat 1 Shao Kahn Movie Skin smashing axe to the ground

Key Highlights:

  • Mortal Kombat 1 leaks reveal official movie skins inspired by both MK1 and MK2 films.
  • Hidden brutalities and unannounced content hint at ongoing support.
  • Ed Boon teases more character and skin drops amidst top 20 sales performance.

Mortal Kombat 1 is far from finished, and if you thought its movie tie-ins were just for show, think again.

A wave of new character skins have been leaked that are ripped straight from both the original Mortal Kombat 1995 film and the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 sequel.

The results? Surprisingly authentic recreations that are fan-made, but are absolutely legit, and hint at something much bigger under the surface.

New Skins, Familiar Faces

Sub-Zero and Scorpion headline the drop, sporting appearances that mirror their cinematic versions, though eagle-eyed fans will note that Sub-Zero’s look more closely resembles MK1’s Bi-Han than anything from the upcoming sequel.

It’s a subtle nod to the franchise’s roots, suggesting NetherRealm is pulling from multiple timelines to build out this new in-game universe.

Johnny Cage, Katana, and Shao Kahn also show off reworked aesthetics, some pulling straight from the movie, others inspired by existing gear in Invasions.

And then there’s Shao Kahn: towering, brutal, and wielding an axe reshaped into a hammer, channeling pure menace.

It’s arguably one of his strongest designs since MK Deception, and a clear reason why players will be booting up the game again.

Hints of More to Come

NetherRealm Studios isn’t saying much about what’s next, but the hints are everywhere.

Datamines have already surfaced alternate looks for characters like Noob Saibot, with speculation swirling around a Revenant version of Kano potentially making his way to the roster.

The recent surprise drop of the MKX skins and even a secret Kameo character in the way of Madam Bo which came with the T-1000 update show that the devs are more than willing to shadow-drop content.

Ed Boon himself continues to stoke the fire on social media.

His recent post celebrating MK1’s strong sales, which have kept it in the PS5’s top 20, might be more than just a humble brag. Historically, similar posts have preceded new announcements, and with Season 3 winding down, all signs point to fresh reveals before long.

Hidden Shang Tsung Brutality Discovery

It’s not just about cosmetics either. A new hidden brutality for Shang Tsung recently came to light thanks to content creator MKF30.

Using a specific string – forward 3, 4, hold forward – players can trigger a stomp finisher that sets the opponent’s head ablaze. Here’s the exact controls for each platform:

PlayStation: ,
🔁 Hold on 2nd

Xbox: Y, B
🔁 Hold on 2nd B

Switch: X, A
🔁 Hold on 2nd A

The brutality reportedly surfaced alongside a batch of previously undocumented finishers, implying there are more secrets lurking in MK1’s updated move lists.

With five movie skins heavily rumoured, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Katana, and Shao Kahn, plus likely more on the way, Mortal Kombat 1 is quietly building one of its most ambitious cosmetic collections to date.

Crucially, these additions aren’t just for flair; they play into the larger identity of the game, reinforcing its connection to both its cinematic past and its modern, evolving roster.

Characters like Liu Kang and Mileena are strong candidates for future movie-based makeovers.

And if Kano does return as many suspect, a skin based on his movie version would be an easy crowd-pleaser.

The speculation doesn’t stop at cosmetics. Whether Kombat Pack 3 materialises or not, fans can expect more cameos, brutalities, and seasonal rewards.

NetherRealm has always been a studio that rewards patience and loyalty, and MK1 is shaping up to follow that tradition. It must be said that gamers should wait for an official announcement from the developers and should take these leaks as a grain of salt.

However, these movie skins are highly likely to come into fruition, so it’s just about playing the waiting game.

For now, the message is simple: don’t underestimate the drip feed. Every skin, brutality, and teaser builds on the momentum, and Mortal Kombat 1 still has plenty of blood left to spill.
