Key Highlights:

  • The Sled is crafted using a 3D Printer found in early-game bunkers.
  • It allows rapid downhill travel and negates fall damage on slopes.
  • The Log Sled from The Forest came in Patch 05 for the game.

In Sons of the Forest, mobility can be the difference between surviving and succumbing. While foot travel dominates early exploration, steep mountainous terrain and snow-covered slopes introduce serious travel fatigue.

That’s where the 3D-printed Sled comes in, a lightweight mobility tool that turns the environment into a speedway, letting players zip down inclines with no stamina cost and reduced fall damage.

But don’t confuse it with the Log Sled from the first game. This is not a hauling device – it’s a personal traversal tool with different strengths and entirely new mechanics.

Where to Find the Sled

The Sled isn’t something you’ll stumble across in the wild, it must be printed using the 3D Printer found in one of the game’s early bunkers.

This particular printer is located on the western side of the island, tucked between the coastal edge and the snowy mountain region. It’s marked on your GPS tracker by a green pulsing icon. As you approach, keep an eye out for a golf cart partially buried in overgrowth, this marks the correct entrance.

Once inside the cave, continue through the corridor until you reach a small underground lab. The room contains the 3D Printer itself, a functional laptop for selecting print options, and a bedroll you can use to save progress. The Sled will be one of the preset craftable items, so no additional blueprints are needed.

Printing the Sled requires 1000ml of Printer Resin. While the printer usually starts with about 850ml in its tank, additional resin can be scavenged from the surrounding shelves and workbenches to meet the full cost.

If you’ve already used the printer for other items, you’ll likely need to explore nearby bunkers or search supply crates to restock. Resin appears consistently in underground labs, making them your best bet for replenishment.

The Sled blueprint is pre-loaded—no extra scans or unlocks required. Scroll through the printer menu using ‘R’ until the Sled appears.

Resin Requirements & Crafting

The Sled costs 1000ml of Printer Resin, making it the most expensive item available via the 3D Printer. The printer usually starts with 850ml in its reservoir. Fortunately, extra resin is scattered around the lab to push you just over the threshold.

If you’re short:

  • Explore nearby bunkers
  • Check storage crates and maintenance rooms
  • Prioritise resin recovery if you’ve already printed other items like the Flask or Tech Mesh

How to Use the Sled

Using the Sled is simple, but it requires a specific trigger condition. You must be airborne to activate it:

  1. Open your inventory and equip the Sled as you would a weapon or tool.
  2. Find a steep slope or drop-off.
  3. Jump into the air and quickly tap LMB (Left Mouse Button).
  4. Your character will automatically seat themselves in the Sled and begin sliding.

While descending, you’ll glide over snow, dirt, or grass at high speeds. Once you hit flat ground or slow down, your character will dismount automatically. To slide again, you’ll need to repeat the process.

The Sled isn’t just for novelty. It’s a practical solution to several gameplay challenges. Traversing down from high-altitude points becomes trivial, saving stamina and time.

It also provides a quick getaway from hostile encounters, especially in open areas with downward slopes. While it lacks precise control, in the right terrain it can serve as a reliable method of covering distance fast.

It’s particularly helpful in the northwest region of the island, where slopes are longer and roads are scarce. Though it doesn’t offer steering precision, the Sled can drastically cut down your travel time once mastered.

Can You Get the Log Sled?

Yes, following Patch 05, the Log Sled has officially returned to Sons of the Forest, bringing back one of the most requested features from the original game. This time, players can craft two variants: a Basic Log Sled and an Advanced Log Sled, each with different material requirements and carrying capacity.

The Basic version holds up to eight logs and is crafted using 33 sticks, making it a lightweight, early-game option. The Advanced Log Sled, meanwhile, carries up to 14 logs and includes skull-mounted lamps that help with visibility during night runs. It requires 48 sticks, 3 planks, 2 skulls, 2 cloth, and 4 duct tape to build, making it a more resource-intensive but ultimately more efficient upgrade.

Kelvin can now also interact with both sled types. You can assign him to gather logs and fill the sleds, automating a large part of the base-building process and significantly improving resource transport efficiency.

For players who invest heavily in construction, especially in remote or deforested areas, the return of the Log Sled is a massive quality-of-life upgrade. It restores the fast, bulk hauling that made large-scale projects manageable in The Forest, now enhanced by AI support and tiered crafting.

The Sled in Sons of the Forest is a high-value mobility asset that should be prioritised after essential prints like the Flask or Grappling Hooks. It opens up more terrain, accelerates exploration, and adds a new dynamic to traversal—especially in the game’s steep, wintery biomes.

If you’re willing to part with 1000ml of precious resin, the payoff is well worth the investment.
