Horror Inc. Confirms New Friday the 13th Game

Jason Voorhees stands menacingly in a dimly lit cabin, wearing his iconic hockey mask and a dark jacket, with "Friday the 13th" text.

Key Highlights:

  • A new Friday the 13th game has been officially confirmed.
  • The project is being developed under the Jason Universe banner.
  • No gameplay or release details have been shared yet.

A new Friday the 13th video game is officially in development, confirming months of speculation surrounding the future of the slasher franchise in gaming.

The announcement came during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, where Horror Inc. Executive Vice President Robbie Barsamian revealed that both a sequel to the 2009 Friday the 13th film and a follow-up to 2017’s multiplayer game are actively being worked on.

Barsamian described the new title as a core priority for the company, stating:

“It’s where most of our energy’s going right now.”

While the studio stopped short of announcing platforms, partners, or gameplay details, the confirmation alone marks the formal return of Jason Voorhees to video games.

The announcement follows a period of dormancy for the series. Friday the 13th: The Game, originally developed by IllFonic, was removed from digital storefronts in late 2023. Online servers were taken offline shortly after, leaving only offline play available for those who already owned the title.

The shutdown was preceded by studio layoffs and legal disputes over the franchise rights, which had stifled further updates for years.

With those hurdles seemingly resolved, Horror Inc. is now free to pursue new entries across film and gaming.

The new project will form part of the broader Jason Universe – a transmedia expansion that unites upcoming films, games, and potentially other media under a cohesive banner.

Horror Inc. is working closely with Victor Miller, the screenwriter of the original 1980 film, as part of this initiative. This collaboration suggests that the game may lean more heavily into narrative elements, though nothing has been confirmed at this stage.

The 2017 game built a cult following by pitting players in asymmetric multiplayer matches, reminiscent of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dead by Daylight, but with more grounded survival horror mechanics.

Given that game’s success and eventual decline, fans are hoping for a modern reimagining that could either return to a similar format or pursue a single-player, story-driven experience.

Last year, inisder CineStealth reported that two Friday the 13th games were in development. Well we’ve got one that’s up and running, whether the other will ever make it into fruition remains to be seen.

For now, details remain scarce. No trailers or concept art have been shared, and there’s no word on developers, platforms, or a release window.

However, the announcement sets the stage for Jason’s return at a time when horror games are enjoying a huge resurgence, with titles like the Silent Hill Remake in development and Resident Evil Requiem out in 2026.

Fans of the franchise can expect more updates in the coming months, potentially coinciding with the release of Sweet Revenge, the next Friday the 13th film, which premieres on August 13, 2025.
