Key Highlights:
- The E.U.C. Knight V is a ridable electric unicycle added in Update 3, doubling movement speed.
- Found above ground in campsites, near beaches, rivers, and waterfalls.
- Runs on battery power, climbs steep terrain, but cannot be used in caves or deep water.
The Knight V is one of the most entertaining additions to Sons of the Forest, giving players a fast and quirky way to cover the island. I’ve spent time with it, and while it feels silly at first, it quickly becomes one of the most efficient travel tools if you know its quirks.
The map is far bigger than in the first game, and trekking across it on foot can take whole in-game days. The Knight V is a perfect answer to that problem. It was added in Update 03 by Endnight.
The Knight V is an electric unicycle, easy to recognise because it looks like a single wheel when placed on the ground. You can find them scattered across the east and west sides of the island, often in abandoned camps or cannibal camps. They are also spotted near the river spawn, north beach, and sometimes by the large waterfall.
They cannot be added to your inventory, similar to the Hang Glider, so they stay in the spot you leave them. Luckily, they respawn when you reload a save, and in single-player I’ve seen multiple stack in the same area over time.
To use it, pick it up and left-click to set it down. You’ll hop on automatically and steer with your normal movement keys. It feels about twice as fast as sprinting, sometimes more on clear roads.
The controls rely on keyboard input rather than mouse steering, which makes it easier to look around while moving. It handles best on paths and roads, and in fact, I think this is why so many roads exist in the game, they finally have a proper use.
The Knight V runs on battery, but it recharges quickly between uses, so downtime is minimal. Still, it’s strictly for above-ground travel. It can’t be used in caves, and if you drop it in deep water, you’ll lose it until it floats downstream or you reload.
You also can’t take it on ziplines, and attaching a GPS tracker doesn’t work. Instead, it leaves a temporary marker on your GPS when nearby, which disappears if you move too far away.
The Knight V Holder can be crafted to safely store your unicycle when not in use. It’s found in the Storage tab of the building menu and costs 2 sticks, 6 bones, and three-quarter planks. Once built, simply walk up with the Knight V, press X to place it in, and E to take it back out. Multiple holders can be lined up if you’ve collected more than one, creating a neat garage or workshop area.
In terms of handling, it’s surprisingly capable. The Knight V can climb near-vertical slopes, making it a strong alternative to the Golf Cart for mountain travel.
I’ve managed to scale areas that would normally take long detours, and while it won’t quite handle a 90-degree cliff, steep 70-degree inclines are doable. It does, however, have one major annoyance: small rocks and sticks can knock you straight off, sending you tumbling. You don’t take fall damage from being ejected, but it can be irritating mid-journey.
Enemies can’t ride the Knight V, and they seem unsure how to react to it. This makes it a safe way to break away from danger, as you can simply outrun cannibals and mutants.
That said, you can’t store items on it, and if you’re thrown off near enemies, you’re exposed instantly. I did test launching it off ramps and even traps, and while it can fling you upwards, the fall usually throws you off.
It isn’t perfect, but it’s one of the most fun tools in the game. It feels like a deliberate return to the quirky side of The Forest, the kind of design that prioritises fun over realism. For long treks across the island, it’s far more efficient than running, and its climbing ability alone makes it worth tracking down.
