Behaviour Interactive has officially brought Jason Voorhees into Dead by Daylight, marking the long-awaited arrival of one of horror’s most requested icons. Following a period on the Steam Public Test Build, the Friday the 13th killer is now available across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch platforms.
To celebrate the launch, Behaviour released a new trailer highlighting Jason’s abilities and offering players a closer look at how The Slasher will function inside The Fog.
Jason’s power is divided into two distinct mechanics, combining stealth with deadly ranged attacks. The first, known as Omnipresent Evil, allows him to disappear from the map entirely and move faster while hunting survivors. During this phase, victims receive no indication of his location, forcing them to rely on environmental awareness as Jason tracks their movements using subtle visual cues.
His return is just as dangerous. By targeting environmental objects such as pallets, vault points and breakable walls, Jason can suddenly reappear with a powerful Jump Scare attack. These entrances can destroy obstacles and trigger screams from nearby survivors, making it difficult to predict where the killer will strike next.
The second part of his arsenal introduces Impaling Throw, a ranged ability inspired by Jason’s improvised methods of killing throughout the Friday the 13th films. Rather than carrying unlimited ammunition, he must gather makeshift projectiles found around the map. Broken generator parts, locker fragments, hooks and pieces of destroyed pallets can all be used as deadly weapons.
Landing a hit briefly stuns survivors, but wounded targets standing near walls face an even greater threat. Jason can pin them in place, leaving them helpless until he closes the distance to secure the down.
The arrival of Jason represents one of the most significant licensed additions in Dead by Daylight’s history. For years, legal disputes surrounding the Friday the 13th franchise cast doubt over whether the crossover would ever happen. His release finally fulfils one of the community’s longest-standing requests.
Jason’s debut formed part of Behaviour Interactive’s 10th anniversary celebrations, which also included announcements surrounding upcoming collaborations with franchises such as Scooby-Doo, Diablo IV, Terrifier and The Walking Dead. The studio also provided an update on the Dead by Daylight film adaptation, confirming that Thordur Palsson will direct the project.
Ten years after launch, Dead by Daylight continues to expand its roster with some of horror’s biggest names, and Jason Voorhees now joins that ever-growing list as one of the game’s most anticipated killers.
