Reptile, whose real name is Syzoth, is a Zaterran able to shift between a human appearance and his natural reptilian form. Mortal Kombat 1 builds much of his moveset around that transformation alongside acid attacks, invisibility, Death Roll and other attacks that use his full Zaterran form.
Reptile has two character-specific Fatalities, the Feed Me, Syzoth Animality, The Klassic, five Brutalities unlocked through Fighter Mastery and two additional Seasonal Store Brutalities. This Mortal Kombat 1 guide covers every current finisher alongside its platform inputs, working distances, Final Hits and activation conditions.
How to Perform Reptile’s First Fatality in MK1 (Indigestion)
Input Distance: Jump Distance to Full Screen
Execution Difficulty: Easy
- PlayStation: ➡️⬅️⬇️🅾️
- Xbox: ➡️⬅️⬇️🅑
- Nintendo Switch: ➡️⬅️⬇️🅐
Reptile transforms into his full Zaterran form and swallows the opponent whole. He quickly discovers the meal was too much, vomiting the victim back out into a pool of corrosive fluid before crushing their head as they attempt to escape.
Indigestion is commonly labelled as a Mid Fatality, but its practical activation range is much larger. It works from approximately Jump Distance all the way to Full Screen.
I would treat Indigestion as Reptile’s dedicated long-range Fatality. Once you have reached Jump Distance, there is no reason to close the gap before entering the input.
That makes it particularly convenient when the final attack sends an opponent across the arena.
How to Perform Reptile’s Second Fatality in MK1 (Acid Reflux)
Input Distance: Sweep Distance
Execution Difficulty: Easy
- PlayStation: ➡️⬇️⬅️🅧
- Xbox: ➡️⬇️⬅️🅐
- Nintendo Switch: ➡️⬇️⬅️🅑
Reptile transforms and wraps his tongue around the opponent’s neck. The corrosive surface begins melting their hands as they struggle to escape before Reptile tears away the head and crushes it in his jaws.
Acid Reflux has one of the more misleading distance descriptions among Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities. Older move information commonly calls it Close, but standing directly beside the opponent can actually prevent the Fatality from activating. When I played its working position was at Sweep Distance every time I tested.
NOTE: Do not position Reptile directly against the opponent. Leave some space before entering the Fatality input.
Important: Reptile can also perform the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Winter Fatalities if they are unlocked on the player’s account. These seasonal Fatalities are not unique to Reptile and can be performed by other playable fighters.
How to Perform Reptile’s Animality in MK1 (Feed Me, Syzoth)
Input Distance: Sweep Distance to Full Screen
Execution Difficulty: Easy
- PlayStation: ⬇️⬇️⬅️🅾️
- Xbox: ⬇️⬇️⬅️🅑
- Nintendo Switch: ⬇️⬇️⬅️🅐
Feed Me, Syzoth transforms Reptile into a gigantic Venus flytrap. The plant extends its tongue, pulls the opponent into its mouth and repeatedly bites down until little of the victim remains.
The Animality works from Sweep Distance all the way to Full Screen, making it another extremely forgiving Reptile finisher when a round ends with both fighters far apart.
I would establish Sweep Distance first and leave Reptile exactly where he is. There is no benefit to moving closer once Feed Me, Syzoth has entered its activation range.
The Venus flytrap is also a complete departure from Reptile’s original Animality. In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Reptile transformed into a chimpanzee that chased the opponent away. Mortal Kombat 1 replaces that transformation with the carnivorous plant.
For the animal transformation used by every other playable fighter, see our complete Mortal Kombat 1 Animality guide.
All Reptile Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1
Reptile has The Klassic and five character-specific Brutalities unlocked through Fighter Mastery. Damn Tasty!, Krocodile Done Right, Behind You, Ready To Pounce and Pop Belly unlock at Mastery Ranks 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 respectively.
Two additional Brutalities, Sizzle Away and A Little Snack, were introduced through the Seasonal Store. They sit outside Reptile’s Fighter Mastery progression and remain usable once acquired.
The Klassic
Unlock Requirement: Available by default
- PlayStation: ⬇️ + 🔺
- Xbox: ⬇️ + 🅨
- Nintendo Switch: ⬇️ + 🅧
Final Hit: Uppercut
Additional Condition: Hold Back Punch during the Final Hit.
Reptile performs the universal Uppercut Brutality, transforming into his Zaterran form as the attack removes the opponent’s head and attached spine.
The Klassic does not require Fighter Mastery progression. Enter Down + Back Punch and continue holding Back Punch as the Uppercut delivers the Final Hit.
Damn Tasty!
Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 3
- PlayStation: L1 or ⬜ + 🅧
- Xbox: LB or 🅧 + 🅐
- Nintendo Switch: L or 🅨 + 🅑
Final Hit: Puny Human (Back Throw)
Additional Condition: Press Down, Down, Down during the Throw.
Reptile begins Puny Human before transforming and biting off the opponent’s arm. He devours it, tears another piece from their torso and finishes by rubbing his stomach after the meal.
The three Down inputs should begin as soon as the Back Throw starts rather than waiting for its normal animation to approach the ending. Enter the three Down inputs as soon as the Back Throw begins. Waiting until later in the animation makes the Brutality less reliable.
I would therefore approach it as one sequence:
Back Throw → Down → Down → Down
Get the directional inputs out early and let the Throw animation continue.
Brutality Variation: Instead of pressing Down three times, hold Up + Back Punch immediately after initiating the Back Throw to trigger the universal MK11-style Screen Throw Brutality. The opponent is thrown towards the camera and cracks the screen.
Because both Brutalities begin from Reptile’s Back Throw, the follow-up input determines which finisher activates. Down, Down, Down produces Damn Tasty!, while Up + Back Punch branches into the hidden Screen Throw.
Krocodile Done Right
Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 5
- PlayStation: ⬅️➡️🅾️
- Xbox: ⬅️➡️🅑
- Nintendo Switch: ⬅️➡️🅐
Final Hit: Death Roll
Additional Condition: Press Up, Up, Up during the Final Hit.
Reptile performs Death Roll in his Zaterran form but changes the normal ending. He pins the opponent down and bites into their torso, feeding on their internal organs.
The practical requirement is similar to Damn Tasty!. Death Roll must deliver the Final Hit and the three Up inputs need to register during the attack.
I recommend beginning the Up presses immediately after Death Roll connects instead of trying to judge the last moment of the animation:
Back, Forward + Back Kick → Up → Up → Up
That keeps the special-move input and Brutality condition as two clean stages.
Behind You
Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 7
- PlayStation: ⬅️➡️🔺
- Xbox: ⬅️➡️🅨
- Nintendo Switch: ⬅️➡️🅧
Final Hit: Dash Attack
Additional Condition: Hold Back Punch during the Final Hit.
Reptile performs Dash Attack and disappears using his camouflage ability. The confused opponent looks around for him before Reptile reappears and tears their body apart.
Behind You is one of Reptile’s simpler Brutalities. Enter Back, Forward + Back Punch and continue holding Back Punch rather than releasing it after Dash Attack begins.
Older launch discussions contain reports of the Brutality failing despite the correct input, but current finisher documentation requires no additional condition beyond the held Back Punch and Dash Attack delivering the Final Hit.
Ready To Pounce
Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 10
- PlayStation: ⬅️ + 🔺
- Xbox: ⬅️ + 🅨
- Nintendo Switch: ⬅️ + 🅧
Final Hit: Devastating Blow
Additional Condition: Devastating Blow must be fully charged.
Reptile charges Devastating Blow before transforming and tearing both arms from the opponent’s body.
Ready To Pounce depends entirely on reaching the full charge. A normal Back + Back Punch attack cannot activate the Brutality even when it would otherwise end the round.
Hold Back Punch until Devastating Blow reaches its maximum charge and make sure the fully charged attack itself delivers the Final Hit.
NOTE: Older Mortal Kombat 1 progression lists may show Ready To Pounce at Mastery Rank 15. Reptile’s Rank 10 and Rank 15 Brutality names were swapped in the original progression information. Ready To Pounce is the Brutality that functionally becomes available at Rank 10.
Pop Belly
Unlock Requirement: Fighter Mastery Rank 15
- PlayStation: ➡️ + 🅧, 🔺
- Xbox: ➡️ + 🅐, 🅨
- Nintendo Switch: ➡️ + 🅑, 🅧
Final Hit: Visceral Klaw
Additional Condition: Hold Back during the Final Hit.
Reptile completes Visceral Klaw and uses his corrosive attack to destroy the opponent’s midsection, leaving the upper and lower portions of the body connected by little more than the spine.
Enter Forward + Front Kick, Back Punch and begin holding Back while the Kombo is being performed.
From trying out the finisher myself, I would not wait for the second strike to visibly connect before introducing Back. I found it more reliable to have Back held while the string is already playing out.
The easiest sequence to remember is:
Forward + Front Kick → Back Punch → hold Back
NOTE: Pop Belly is another victim of Reptile’s original Mastery-label problem. Older outdated databases commonly place it at Rank 10, but the Brutality actually becomes usable at Rank 15.
Seasonal Store Brutalities
Reptile received two additional Brutalities through the Seasonal Store. Sizzle Away and A Little Snack are separate from Fighter Mastery progression and remain usable once acquired.
Sizzle Away
Unlock Requirement: Seasonal Store
- PlayStation: ⬇️➡️ hold ⬜
- Xbox: ⬇️➡️ hold 🅧
- Nintendo Switch: ⬇️➡️ hold 🅨
Final Hit: Acid Spit Ball
Input Distance: At least Jump Distance
Additional Condition: Hold Back during the Final Hit.
Reptile fires Acid Spit Ball through the opponent, with the corrosive projectile destroying their head as it passes through the body.
Sizzle Away has three separate requirements that all need to be satisfied. Reptile must be at least Jump Distance away, Front Punch must be held to convert Acid Spit into Acid Spit Ball, and Back must be held as the projectile delivers the Final Hit.
NOTE: A normal Acid Spit cannot activate Sizzle Away. Holding Front Punch is part of the actual finishing move because that is what produces Acid Spit Ball.
I would set the distance before doing anything else. Once Reptile is at Jump Distance:
Down, Forward + hold Front Punch → hold Back as Acid Spit Ball connects
Trying to create distance while simultaneously managing the charged projectile and held direction makes this Brutality unnecessarily complicated.
A Little Snack
Unlock Requirement: Seasonal Store
- PlayStation: ⬜, ⬜, 🅾️
- Xbox: 🅧, 🅧, 🅑
- Nintendo Switch: 🅨, 🅨, 🅐
Final Hit: Killer Kick
Additional Condition: Hold Down during the Final Hit.
Reptile completes the Killer Kick Kombo and knocks the opponent’s head from their shoulders. He partially transforms into his Zaterran form, catches the severed head with his tongue and eats it.
A Little Snack is considerably simpler than Sizzle Away because there is no distance, charge or projectile requirement.
Enter Front Punch, Front Punch, Back Kick and begin holding Down before Killer Kick reaches its Final Hit.
Reptile Fatalities, Animality, and Brutalities Video Guide
The video showcase contains both Reptile Fatalities, plus his complete current Brutality collection, including the Fighter Mastery and Seasonal Store finishers.
The video is particularly useful for seeing the timing of Damn Tasty! and Krocodile Done Right, the full charge needed for Ready To Pounce, and how Acid Spit Ball differs from Reptile’s normal projectile during Sizzle Away.
In Mortal Kombat 1’s New Era, Reptile joins Liu Kang’s allies after turning against Shang Tsung and later develops a close relationship with Ashrah. You can explore our Ashrah and Liu Kang finisher guides for their Fatalities, Animalities, and Brutalities.
