  • Focuses on resolving small bugs and quality-of-life issues.
  • Upcoming changes target customisation menus and weapon behaviours.

DICE is rolling out a new update for Battlefield 2042 next week, marking the latest effort to refine the game as the studio shifts focus towards the next major entry in the franchise.

Update 8.2.1 contains a focused list of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, addressing a variety of small issues that have persisted in the live game.

While Battlefield 2042’s major seasonal content has concluded, the development team remains committed to supporting the title through targeted updates.

Patch Notes for Battlefield 2042 Update 8.2.1

General:

  • Fixed an issue where “Return to Sender XP” would be rewarded if you threw back your own grenade from the ground. The Penguins aren’t sure how this would count, are you the sender? Did you send it? How can you return it? Shambles.
  • Fixed an issue where friends would occasionally show up as being online even after they went offline.
  • Added a keybinding option on PC to cancel matchmaking in the main menu, just like there already was on controller. PC players are however still able to click to cancel with their mouse.
  • Fixed an issue where the “This uniform is part of a set” text would display across multiple rows on the Customization Screen.

Weapons:

  • Weapon Skin and Charm Customization menus will now open at the top of the scroll list when customizing a different weapon than the previous one, instead of remembering the previous scroll position.
  • Fixed an issue where the muzzle attachment would be unintentionally visible when looking through high-magnification scopes on the RPT-31.
  • Added the correct customization screen icon for the M1 Garand default magazine attachment.

Among the changes, the patch resolves an exploit where players could receive “Return to Sender XP” for throwing back their own grenades.

Additionally, it addresses a bug causing friends to occasionally appear online after going offline, and adds a new keybinding option for PC players to cancel matchmaking directly from the main menu.

The customisation experience also receives some attention, with the update fixing an issue where the “This uniform is part of a set” message would display across multiple rows.

Furthermore, the weapon skin and charm menus have been tweaked to open at the top of the scroll list when switching between different firearms.

On the weapons front, the update addresses a problem causing muzzle attachments to be visible when aiming down long scopes on the RPT-31 light machine gun.

It also adds the correct customisation screen icon for the default magazine attachment on the M1 Garand.

While relatively minor in scope, these changes represent DICE’s continued efforts to refine Battlefield 2042’s core functionality as attention shifts towards the next major entry in the series.

Rumours suggest the next instalment could arrive as soon as 2025, potentially taking the franchise back to its modern-day roots akin to Battlefield 3 and 4.

In the meantime, these incremental Battlefield 2042 updates are likely to continue, addressing any lingering bugs or issues as the development team winds down support for the current title.

Fans eagerly anticipating the next experience may have to stay patient, but can take solace in the knowledge that DICE remains committed to improving the game in the short term.
