Key Highlights:

  • A fan petition to save Star Wars Outlaws 2 has passed 3,000 signatures.
  • Ubisoft has not confirmed or denied rumours the sequel was cancelled.
  • Supporters say updates and DLC have fixed many launch issues.

Star Wars Outlaws may not have hit the commercial heights Ubisoft hoped for, but a growing number of players aren’t ready to let the series go. Following rumours that the planned sequel has been shelved, more than a thousand fans have signed an online petition urging Ubisoft to press ahead with Star Wars Outlaws 2.

The first game, developed by Massive Entertainment and released in 2024, earned generally positive reviews at launch but was labelled a financial disappointment by Ubisoft.

As someone who followed the game’s development closely, it’s hard to ignore how much it’s evolved since release. At launch, the over-reliance on stealth drew plenty of criticism, but later updates eased those mechanics.

DLC expansions like A Pirate’s Fortune story also broadened the experience, and while the core structure still felt like a familiar Ubisoft open world, the game had a unique charm in how it portrayed Kay Vess’ journey across the galaxy. It’s the sort of foundation that could have led to a far stronger sequel – not unlike the leap from the first Assassin’s Creed to its far more refined follow-up.

The petition’s organisers argue that shelving the project now would be premature. They point to other titles with rough starts, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky, which turned things around with sustained updates. The SW Outlaws community believes similar long-term support could have paid off here, particularly as the recent patches addressed many of the technical and pacing issues that held it back.

Not all players agree. Some question whether Star Wars Outlaws offered enough originality to justify a sequel, suggesting it never broke away from the “good, but safe” Ubisoft formula.

Others counter that the negativity surrounding it was overstated, noting its issues never reached the scale of the industry’s most infamous launches.

If you feel positive about adding your name to the petition, then you can do so here. The website hosting the petition currently has 3,335 signatures as of this writing.

For now, Ubisoft remains silent on the sequel’s fate. Star Wars Outlaws will see a new audience when it arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 this September, and its sales there could prove pivotal. If the Switch 2 version finds success, the publisher may yet revisit its decision, giving Kay Vess another shot at adventure. Until then, fans are hoping their signatures will be enough to keep the dream alive.

I personally like the game and think a sequel should be given the go ahead. What are your thoughts? Leave them below in the comments section.
