Star Wars Outlaws sequel and four unreleased DLCs reportedly scrapped by Ubisoft

Key Highlights:

  • A new report claims Ubisoft cancelled a planned sequel to Star Wars Outlaws.
  • The game was also reportedly set to receive six DLC expansions before most were scrapped.
  • Only two expansions were ultimately released following the game’s mixed launch.

Ubisoft reportedly had much bigger plans for Star Wars Outlaws before the game’s commercial performance fell short of expectations, with a new report claiming both a sequel and several planned DLC expansions have since been cancelled.

The information comes from Star Wars insider FivesWalker, who alleges that Massive Entertainment originally expected the open-world adventure to become a longer-running series. According to the report, the studio had planned a direct sequel alongside six post-launch DLC expansions, but those plans were abandoned after the game’s disappointing reception.

The sequel itself is not an entirely new rumour, with reports emerging last year suggesting Ubisoft had shelved a follow-up. There was even a petition that got 3,000 signatures, demanding the sequel be made. However, the claim that six DLC packs were originally planned offers fresh insight into just how much post-launch support the publisher had reportedly envisioned.

If accurate, only a third of that content made it to players.

During its lifespan, Star Wars Outlaws received two major story expansions, Wild Card and A Pirate’s Fortune, alongside a series of gameplay updates that improved stealth mechanics, combat and other areas following player feedback. It also gave players a free Star Wars: Skeleton Crew cosmetic pack in May 2025 as part of its effort to keep the game active. According to FivesWalker, four additional expansions never reached development completion, including one reportedly intended to tie directly into the novel Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon by Mike Chen, which launched earlier this year.

Details on the remaining unreleased DLC remain unknown, although the report suggests Ubisoft had originally planned to support the game for much longer than it ultimately did.

Released in August 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC before arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in September 2025, Star Wars Outlaws marked the franchise’s first fully open-world action adventure. Players stepped into the role of outlaw Kay Vess, travelling across planets and space while assembling a crew for a dangerous heist set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Gameplay combined blaster combat, stealth, hacking mechanics and environmental interactions, giving players multiple ways to approach missions. Although the game earned praise for its Star Wars setting and world-building, criticism often centred on familiar Ubisoft open-world design, inconsistent stealth mechanics and gameplay frustrations that prevented it from reaching its full potential.

In my opinion, these reported cancellations are believable given how publishers typically evaluate long-term support. Large expansions and sequels require significant investment, and if a game fails to meet internal expectations, those plans can quickly change. Ubisoft even had their stock price tumble to a decade-long low after the release of the game, so that wouldn’t of instilled confidence. Even so, it’s disappointing for players who enjoyed Kay Vess’ story, especially if Ubisoft originally intended to expand the universe much further.

Neither Ubisoft nor Massive Entertainment has publicly commented on the latest claims, meaning the reported sequel cancellation and unreleased DLC plans should be treated as rumours until officially confirmed. Nevertheless, if the insider’s information is accurate, Star Wars Outlaws may have been intended to become a much larger franchise than the two-DLC release players ultimately received.
