Key Highlights:
- Sony has confirmed three free PlayStation Plus games for January 2026, with PS4 support still present.
- The lineup includes one PS5-only title and two cross-gen releases.
- Subscribers have until January 6 to claim December’s outgoing games.
Sony has officially revealed the free PlayStation Plus games for January 2026, and the announcement will come as a relief to anyone still playing on PS4. Earlier in 2025, Sony confirmed that PlayStation Plus would begin shifting its focus away from PS4 titles from January 2026 onward, limiting them mostly to cross-gen releases. That raised concerns that PS4 users might be left behind faster than expected, but this first lineup suggests a more gradual transition.
From Tuesday, January 6, all PlayStation Plus members can add three games to their libraries at no extra cost. The January selection includes Need for Speed Unbound, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Core Keeper.
Crucially, two of those titles are available on both PS4 and PS5, easing fears that monthly drops would quickly become PS5-only.
Need for Speed Unbound is the lone PS5 exclusive in the lineup. Developed by Criterion Games, it blends realistic racing with stylised visual effects and remains one of the more distinctive entries in the long-running series. If you skipped it at launch, this is an easy one to grab, especially for players who enjoy arcade-leaning racers with a strong visual identity. The racer is regularly updated with new content like cars, new game modes, and bug fixes using its live service approach.
Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a remake of the 2010 Wii cult classic, bringing Mickey Mouse’s darker adventure to modern platforms with updated visuals while preserving its original structure. It supports both PS4 and PS5, making it one of the key titles here for players who have not yet upgraded consoles.
Core Keeper rounds out the lineup and is arguably the standout inclusion. After spending time in early access, the sandbox survival game launched fully in 2024 and earned strong word of mouth for its progression, exploration, and co-op design. With procedurally generated worlds and support for up to eight players, it is the kind of game that shines when played with friends, and PS Plus gives it a much wider audience.
All three games will be available to claim from January 6 until February 2, regardless of PlayStation Plus tier.
Before the January games go live, subscribers still have time to claim December’s unusually generous lineup. Until January 6, PlayStation Plus members can add Killing Floor 3, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Neon White, Synduality: Echo of Ada, and The Outlast Trials to their libraries. Once that date passes, those titles will be replaced by January’s selection.
For PS4 players in particular, this first post-transition lineup sends a clear message. Support is shrinking, but it is not disappearing overnight. January 2026 still offers solid value across both generations, even as the service continues its slow pivot toward PS5.
