Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake Tipped for Reveal After Requiem Launches

Key Highlights:

  • A new report claims Capcom will announce a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake later in 2026.
  • Reliable leaker Dusk Golem says RE5 will not be announced this year despite fan speculation.
  • Code Veronica is reportedly planned to follow RE Requiem and arrive before a Resident Evil Zero remake in 2028.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica now looks like the next game in Capcom’s remake pipeline, with a fresh claim from noted series leaker Dusk Golem over on social site X, stating that an announcement is planned “later this year”.

The leaker pushed back on recent expectations of a Resident Evil 5 remake, saying fans should instead expect a reveal for the Dreamcast-era title that starts with “C” and ends with “ode Veronica”. It fits with previous reporting that pegged the still-unannounced remake for a 2027 release window, shortly after February’s Resident Evil Requiem.

Code Veronica launched in 2000 and is one of the more unusual entries in the catalogue. It is not a numbered sequel, but narratively it sits alongside Resident Evil 3 and follows Claire and Chris Redfield through a remote island facility and into Antarctica. I never played it on the Dreamcast myself, but I did multiple playthroughs when it landed on the PlayStation 2.

For many long-time players it is a core part of the series timeline and one that would benefit significantly from a full modern overhaul. From what I’ve seen in the community across the last few years, Code Veronica is often the “most-requested remake” simply because it has never had the same treatment as Resident Evil 2, 3 or 4. Last year, we covered an all you need to know in regards to all the information that’s leaked about a RE Code Veronica Remake. Info includes character switching, third-person gameplay and new stealth elements.

Dusk Golem even stated last August that the Code Veronica Remake would have a big budget and include a semi-open world Rockfort Island.

Rumours around a Resident Evil 5 remake have been swirling ever since a teasing comment from Sheva Alomar’s voice actress Eva La Dare, but Dusk Golem’s latest comments suggest RE5 is not in Capcom’s immediate plans.

That makes sense when you consider the likely production order. Multiple reports claimed Capcom intends to round out the pre-RE4 timeline before looping forward again, with a Resident Evil Zero remake reportedly targeting 2028. Actor Jon McLaren, who worked on Far Cry 5 and Guardians of the Galaxy, even listed “Billy Coen” on his CV last year, prompting speculation that he would portray the Zero protagonist in that project.

For now, the official spotlight is still on Resident Evil Requiem, which arrives 27 February and brings back Leon S. Kennedy alongside new protagonist Grace Ashcroft. If Dusk Golem is correct, Code Veronica’s remake reveal won’t happen until after Requiem has launched and almost certainly not until Capcom has finished its marketing cycle.

Fans hoping for a Resident Evil 5 remake may need to wait until the current wave of remakes is complete and Capcom pivots back to new entries.
