In an exciting development for Overwatch 2 players, Blizzard has unveiled a series of balance adjustments set to take effect with the upcoming mid-Season 9 patch. These changes aim to further refine the game’s meta and ensure that every hero remains a viable option, following the sweeping overhaul introduced at the start of Season 9.
Addressing one of the most significant additions from Season 9, Blizzard via a new Director’s Take post, has decided to slightly dial back the potent DPS passive that reduces the amount of healing received by targets.
Originally implemented at a 20% reduction, this passive will now be toned down to a 15% healing penalty. This adjustment comes as a response to feedback suggesting that the initial value may have been pushed too far, making it excessively hazardous for tanks to expose themselves and causing health pools to deplete at an alarming rate, even with dedicated healing support.
Bolstering Support: Buffs to Ana and Lifeweaver
While the DPS passive receives a nerf, several heroes across the tank and support roles are set to receive substantial buffs.
On the support front, the iconic Ana is receiving a significant boost to her Biotic Grenade’s damage and healing capabilities, increasing from 60 to 90 health.
This change is designed to enhance Ana’s self-sustainability, ensuring that one of the game’s most popular support heroes remains a viable and balanced choice.
Lifeweaver, the newest addition to the support roster, is also receiving adjustments to bolster his healing potential.
His maximum Healing Blossom healing will increase from 70 to 80, while the charging time for this ability will be extended from 1 to 1.15 seconds.
Combined with the reduced DPS passive, these changes aim to make both Lifeweaver and the ever-reliable Mercy more dependable in their healing roles.
Empowering Tanks: Buffs for Doomfist and Mauga
In the tank category, Doomfist and Mauga are the recipients of significant buffs.
Doomfist’s formidable Meteor Strike ultimate will see its minimum damage increased from 15 to a substantial 50, ensuring that this ability can more reliably secure eliminations and facilitate follow-up actions from Doomfist or his team.
Mauga, the fearsome tank hailing from the Samoan islands, is receiving a suite of changes to his Cardiac Overdrive ability.
Its duration will be reduced from 5 to 4 seconds, while its cooldown will be decreased from 12 to 10 seconds.
Additionally, Cardiac Overdrive will now grant Mauga 100 overhealth, providing him with much-needed survivability. Mauga’s Stomp ability, part of his Overrun sequence, will also receive a damage increase from 45 to 60.
Notably, Wrecking Ball will not receive any changes in this mid-season patch; however, Blizzard has confirmed that a small rework for the lovable, deranged hamster is in the works for Season 10, scheduled to commence on or around April 9th.
Introducing “Double Trouble” Game Mode
Alongside these balance adjustments, Overwatch 2 players can look forward to a new and exciting game mode called “Double Trouble.” This mode will remove the traditional one-hero limitation, allowing players to select duplicate heroes within their respective roles.
While role queue will remain active, this exciting twist promises to unleash a wave of creativity and strategic depth, harkening back to the early days of the FPS when teams could assemble compositions like the infamous “Quinston” (five Winstons and a support).
The mid-season patch promises to be a landmark update, but the excitement doesn’t stop there. On the same day, March 12, Overwatch 2 will officially kick off its highly anticipated Cowboy Bebop collaboration event.
This crossover will introduce five new themed skins, including Spike Spiegel Cassidy, Faye Valentine Ashe, Jet Black Mauga, Ed Sombra, and the free-to-unlock Ein Wrecking Ball skin.
Fans can expect the in-game skins to be revealed no later than the day before the event’s launch.
As Overwatch 2 continues to evolve, Blizzard remains committed to monitoring player feedback and gameplay data. Ensuring that the game remains balanced, engaging, and enjoyable for all.
With these mid-season adjustments and the promise of more changes on the horizon, the future of Overwatch 2 looks brighter than ever.
