Key Highlights:
- New Team GO Rocket Takeover event from 8-12 August 2024.
- Shadow Cresselia and Lugia debut, but no Shadow Rayquaza.
- Fans disappointed by absence of Apex Shadow Lugia.
Trainers, get ready for a shadowy takeover! Niantic has announced the next Team GO Rocket event for Pokémon GO, dubbed “Adventure Week: Taken Over”.
Set to run from August 8th at midnight to August 12th at 11:59 p.m. local time, this event promises to shake up the Pokémon GO landscape. However, not all trainers are thrilled with the lineup.
New Shadow Pokémon Debuts
The headline attractions of this event are the debuts of Shadow Cresselia and Shadow Lugia.
As detailed in a new blog post on the official website, trainers will have the chance to rescue Shadow Cresselia through Giovanni’s Special Research, while Shadow Lugia will appear in 5-star Shadow Raids.
This marks a significant addition to the roster of powerful Shadow Pokémon available in the game.
Moreover, the event will introduce Shadow variants of Timburr, Tirtouga, and Archen, obtainable through battles with Team GO Rocket Grunts.
Other Shadow Pokémon, including Mareep, Wooper, Cranidos, Shieldon, Nuzleaf, Manectric, and Vibrava, will also feature in various raid tiers.
Despite this impressive lineup, a wave of disappointment has swept through parts of the community.
Many trainers had their hearts set on the debut of Shadow Rayquaza, given the recent focus on this legendary Pokémon during the Shared Skies season. The absence of Shadow Rayquaza from this event has left many fans feeling let down.
Adding to the controversy, eagle-eyed trainers spotted a discrepancy between the event announcement and the Shared Skies trailer.
The trailer featured Apex Shadow Lugia, recognisable by its distinctive white lightning aura. Yet, the event announcement only mentions the regular Shadow Lugia variant.
Apex Shadow Lugia, known for its exclusive and powerful Aeroblast+ move, would have been a major draw for many players.
PokéStop and Balloons Event Bonuses and Opportunities
It’s worth noting that the event does bring some exciting bonuses. Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons, giving trainers ample opportunities to engage in shadow battles.
Additionally, trainers will be able to use Charged TMs to help Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration, a valuable opportunity for those looking to optimise their movesets.
While the event offers plenty of content for trainers to sink their teeth into, the community’s reaction serves as a reminder of the passionate fanbase the mobile title has cultivated.
The anticipation for Shadow Rayquaza and the confusion over Apex Shadow Lugia highlight how closely players follow the game’s developments and how high their expectations can be.
Niantic has not yet responded to the community’s concerns, leaving some to hope that there might be surprise additions to the event or clarifications about the featured creatures.
As the event approaches, trainers should be watching closely for any updates or changes on social media channels.
Despite the mixed reactions, “Adventure Week: Taken Over” promises to be an action-packed event with plenty of opportunities for trainers to expand their Shadow Pokémon collections.
Trainers should remember the date of 8-12 August, prepare your best counter Pokémon, and get ready to face off against Team GO Rocket.
