Key Highlights:
- Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Steam Deck Verified status has been confirmed ahead of launch.
- Ubisoft says the remake will be fully supported on Steam Deck from day one.
- Players can set sail on Valve’s handheld when the game releases on 9 July.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be Steam Deck verified, meaning PC players will be able to enjoy Edward Kenway’s pirate adventure on Valve’s handheld from launch day.
The announcement comes just over a week before the remake arrives on 9 July, giving Steam Deck owners confidence that they won’t have to wait for post-launch updates or community fixes before jumping into the game.
Ubisoft reassured fans that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will carry Steam Deck’s Verified rating, the highest level of compatibility available on Valve’s platform. Games with this classification are designed to work straight out of the box, with suitable controller support, readable text, appropriate user interface scaling and performance that meets Steam Deck’s standards.
That means players should be able to install the game and start playing without needing to adjust controller layouts or tweak graphics settings simply to achieve a playable experience.
The announcement is particularly welcome following recent confirmation that the PC version will also include Denuvo DRM, a decision that divided opinion among some fans ahead of release.
Ubisoft has also revealed that its development teams have worked to ensure the remake can be enjoyed across multiple devices, including handheld systems such as Steam Deck. Alongside handheld support, the updated version includes visual enhancements such as ray tracing and dynamic weather, although Ubisoft has not yet shared detailed performance figures for Valve’s handheld.
Steam Deck verification has become an increasingly important feature for PC releases in recent years. While games can still be labelled Playable if they require minor adjustments, the Verified badge confirms that a title delivers the best possible experience without extra setup. Unsupported games, meanwhile, are generally not recommended for the hardware.
In my opinion, Steam Deck verification is becoming almost as important as PC system requirements for many new releases. A growing number of players now split their gaming time between desktop PCs and handheld devices, so knowing a game is fully verified before launch removes a lot of uncertainty. For a lengthy open-world adventure like Black Flag Resynced, having confidence that it will run well on Steam Deck from day one is a significant advantage.
The original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag proved to be a strong fit for handheld gaming when it launched on Nintendo Switch, making the Steam Deck a natural home for the remaster. If performance lives up to expectations, players should be able to experience Edward Kenway’s pirate journey wherever they choose to play.
Ubisoft is also encouraging early purchases ahead of release. Players who pre-order the Steam version before launch will receive the Blackbeard Crimson Pack, offering a pirate-themed cosmetic bonus as an extra incentive before the game arrives.
With Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Steam Deck Verified ahead of launch, one of the biggest remaining questions is how well the remake will perform in practice. That answer will arrive when players finally get their hands on the game on 9 July.
