The End of an Era for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
The live-service chapter for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will officially close with the release of Season 4 Episode 8 in January 2025.
This announcement follows a series of setbacks for Warner Bros. Games, as the live-service model has proven challenging for many developers, with titles like Marvel’s Avengers also ending support in 2023 due to low player retention.
This marks the end of what was intended to be Warner Bros. and Rocksteady’s next flagship title in the DC universe.
In a season 4 deep dive blog post on the official website, the devs thanked everyone who was part of Task Force X and revealed all the details on what will be the final season ever for the game.
Initially envisioned as a bold evolution of Rocksteady’s acclaimed Arkham series, the game promised fans an expansive open-world experience, where players could step into the shoes of iconic antiheroes like Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang and Deadshot.
However, the title faced significant challenges upon launch, failing to meet sales expectations and drawing mixed responses from fans and critics.
There have been may attempts to save its fate, like the PlayStation Plus Premium free trial offered in May, but the title’s fate was already sealed.
Rocksteady announced on December 9th 2024 that Episode 8 would conclude the game’s seasonal content.
While new content will cease, all existing online features, episodic content, and the core game will remain accessible to players.
Season 4 Overview
Offline Mode Debuts
As part of the Season 4 update, Suicide Squad introduces an Offline Mode, allowing players to enjoy the main story and all post-launch content without an internet connection.
Available from December 10th with Episode 7, this feature supports both new and existing profiles, ensuring players retain their progress and cosmetics.
Deathstroke Joins the Roster
Season 4 Episode 7 also adds Deathstroke, the world’s most dangerous assassin, as a playable character. Industry leakers have been constantly predicting his imminent arrival, and at long last they are about to be proved right.
With his trademark tactical expertise, swordsmanship, and state-of-the-art Ikon suit, Deathstroke brings unique playstyles that cater to melee-focused combat, firearms mastery, and strategic engagements.
Players can unlock him by completing the Mayhem Mission at Episode Rank 30.
Medieval Elseworld Adventure
This season takes the battle to a medieval Elseworld inspired by DC’s Dark Knights of Steel. Here, Brainiac’s interdimensional conquest brings the Squad to a feudal reimagining of Smallville, complete with windmills, medieval architecture, and a castle-like Hall of Justice.
The Dark Knights of Steel Elseworld, which began as a comic series in 2021, reimagines the DC universe in a medieval setting, blending fantasy and superhero tropes.
Its critical success likely inspired Rocksteady’s thematic pivot for this season.
Deathstroke’s affinity for close combat finds a perfect stage in this chivalric landscape.
Notable Gear and Features
Gorilla Grodd’s Infamy Set
One highlight of Episode 7 is Gorilla Grodd’s Infamy Set, which harnesses the villain’s immense strength and intellect.
Its abilities range from a powerful shield-focused build to melee enhancements that amplify damage exponentially.
This set further explores Gorilla Grodd’s established lore, where his telepathic prowess often complements his physical dominance, making him a dual-threat in the DC universe. Fans will know him as a big adversary of The Flash.
New Weapons and Items
The update also introduces fresh gear, such as Brain’s Teaser, a weapon that adapts based on enemy afflictions.
These additions offer varied strategies for players to master in their quest against Brainiac.
Though Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League concludes its live-service updates, Rocksteady ensures the game remains accessible to fans, with its rich roster of characters, engaging combat, and expansive storylines.
Either through co-op gameplay or Offline Mode, the DC universe’s antiheroes will continue their fight for justice or chaos well into the future.
